Heads up in the South! 5 London steam trains in 2 days, 7th and 11th December

A couple of VSOE trips to and from Victoria with the newly repaired Clan Line, plus two Cathedrals Expresses with Tornado and Tangmere (?) and then the star of the show, 5043 Earl Of Mount Edgcumbe bringing "The First Moor Street Express" in and out of Paddington.

Blimey, mainline steam expresses from Euston, Victoria and Paddington all on the same day. With an A1, a MN and a Castle. Who'd have dreamt it a few years back.....

 

Great stuff, it's going to be a bit like that tomorrow in London with two A4's and 44962.

I'm hoping the tube connections will be on time.

Tangmere (whether or not it will make it) is down for a RTC Bath Christmas Market on December 11th and is meant to start at Haywards Heath so you'll have to be up quite early for that to see it through the London Subarbs on its way there.

It was down for a Cathedrals on the 7th but it is now showing 44932 as a replacement.

 

Yes you're right, too early for me, I hadn't counted the Haywards Heath trip in the five, as it's heading south from there, it was the Waterloo to Sherbourne trip, now 44932, that I was counting in when I said Tangmere.

 

Yeah I thought it was. I suspect that 44932 will be the loco on the Haywards Heath trip. I'll be at Haywards Heath for that whatever the loco even if I do have to get up early. Since Haywards Heath is in Sussex you needn't have it as part of the 5 trips in London.

 

On Dec 12th, if your an early bird you could do 5 in 1 day.... 4 of them will be within a mile or so of each other, and 3 of them running very close together..

Ive not seen all the actual times, but based on previous runs of the same tours, at the same times, I could suggest something like..
60007 will be around Willesden around 04.56 am heading to the North London line from Southall
44932 will probably be around Willesden around 05.30 am heading to Kensington from Southall
60163 will be around Willesden around 05.23am heading to Euston, from Kensington

later 60163 heads north, and 5043 comes into Paddington. and 35028 does the VSOE once more.

I'm sure real times will be out later this week.

5 in a day in London.. not too bad eh ?

It was a very patchy day for weather yesterday, when I left home near Bracknell the sun was out, when I got to Staines it was pretty murky but showing some promise, then by Woking I was back in the sunshine. It clouded over again before Clan Line came through a couple of hours later. Still the sun on 44932 at Woking was very welcome! In all the conditions, it was a good day for steamy steam anyway
