As the year draws to a close I thought it would be nice to see what is the forums Steam moment of the year. Lets get those nominations in now and I will run a poll with the shortlisted ones!
So which moment do you think should be moment of the year and why. I will reveal mine later!

I know it's not PC to vote for your own engines, but I'm going for 5043 over S&C pulling 10+47773 producing over 2000 calculated drawbar hp.

Can we now admit that GWR engines CAN climb hills!!!!!

For me it has to be the use of MSC 32 at the East Lancs In the summer she was worn out mechanicaly but with the odd bit of diesel asistance kept the ELR Mid-weeks With A Steam Presence all though the summer until the BR claptraps were running again. The summer of use finally finished the piston and valves off it coped at Middleton just but is now awaiting a piston and valve overhaul before it can run again. It also is going to be painted that horrid shade of blue!! :-(

B2648 visiting Snibston, very atmospheric on what I think just about qualifies as my local line. May not have been a headline grabber, but it was very nice to see.

For me it has to be the opening of Sheringham crossing, not because it is 'my' line, but for the number of people who came out to witness the event. Nobody really knows the number but the aerial photos show how big the crowd was. I had a tear in my eye as Cromwell came across a piece of track that I had helped build.

I think the opening of Sheringham Level Crossing wins it for me, followed closely by MCR (but they can wait until they've got their connection to Stoke restored!).

The moment for me was being pulled by the 8F on the first steam driver training on the reclaimed Cauldon line up to Apesford. It was a magical moment and one I thought I would never see.

For an actual moment it has to be when 9600 crossed from the National Network to The Chinnor & Princes Risborough railway. The first train to do so in 40 years.

Bluebell 50th Anniversary Gala. Despite no Tornado, 323 or SECR Birdcage it was a brilliant Gala and the Cavalcade on the Sunday with the locos all whistling is something I'll never forget. Plus the return of 5 locos before the gala. 473, 178, 55, Baxter and 957.

Close behind would be any of Vintage Trains GWR 175 tours which were all fantastic even though I didn't get to ride on any of them.

Everything mentioned in this thread is worthy of the title.

I would like to add an event which, though I am biased, was quite remarkable for the modern world. I give you a Western Pannier, on the GW Main Line hauling a train over the Royal Albert Bridge. Worthy of consideration I hope.

    Regards to all,

    Bruce Muray
