Busy at Bishops Lydeard this morning

الموضوع في 'Heritage Railways & Centres in the UK' بواسطة West Somerset Wizard, بتاريخ ‏17 ديسمبر 2010.

With a Freightliner Class 66 running round after bringing in a train full of rails from Network Rail for unloading later at Norton. This train was passed by the incoming stone train from Westbury to Minehead.

The rail train is still viewable on the Bishops Lydeard webcam:

and the stone train will arrive at Minehead around 9.30-10.00 ish - see the Minehead webcam:

    Snowing heavily in West Somerset...

Just watched the run round at Minehead with 66018 on the webcam, which included it shunting a GW Van!

sounds good. where Will we be able to find it.

  5. Ermmm. I have it here and will put it on www.wsr.org.uk (also on the WSRA website www.wsra.org.uk ) but it's embargoed until they've counted all the rails :))

To be honest, looking at the pics of the train, I can't believe it adds up the amount expected. If so, I guess another delivery may be needed (my unofficial hunch). With a stone train again expected next Mon and Tue (7am pass Norton Fitzwarren Junction) I hope future rail trains arrive as timetable (6am pass NFJ) but then there were several frozen points on NR this morn.

Excellent news, the more ,the merrier! A big thanks to Dave Holmes , or is it a team effort with liasing with NR? Anyway well done.

  7. David H is the main player. The WSRA has reciprocal arrangements with Network Rail which has over the last three years provided NR with a guaranteed and nearby offloading location for spent ballast from the HOBC whilst the WSR benefits from use of the spent ballast, and of course the recent delivery of rails. The Triangle will allow the HOBC and other NR trains to turn as required so it all seems a cozy and beneficial arrangement.

Did you pick up on the fact that three freight trains (rail, stone, ballast) visited the WSR yesterday, with four Class 66 locos somewhere along the Branch? I suspect that is a record for the WSR if not any heritage railway.

Yes, good to see it all. What developments are on the horizon for Norton. Carriage shed perhaps?!

  9. Completion of the Triangle(s) is the overwhelming priority for the next few months.

    Yes obviousy, but after that?

  11. Probably some time to rebuild the bank balance! As far as I know, at the mo, there are no plans to build any buildings at Norton. Also, we have to remember the area is not designated for development.
