It is my understanding that 6201 Princess Elizabeth has been invited to the WSR on many occassions, but to press, has not done so (reasons unclear), she has however, worked on SVR, 2 Galas and the Prince Charles Royal Train (as reserve for 6024), on many duties and Galas at ELR (when resident there), at Midland Railway Centre in 1993 (with 46203) and on and off the Paignton and Dartmouth Railway during a Railtour to Kingswear.

Vintage Trains have 6201 booked for a trip over Shap and the S&C on 26th March, and the latest Railway Herald has an piece stating that 6201 will not be attending the WSR Gala. Would be more than a pity if neither loco were to attend.

It would be a pity, but that may be the way the cookie crumbles. In the event that they don't turn up, a Southern Railway-themed anniversary gala, anyone?

  4. Why not! It's actually billed as the 35th Anniversary Gala (at the moment) with the idea of having a loco lineup that is reasonably representative of the motive power seen on the WSR in the last 30 years. Many would love to see the Bagnalls back but that is not going to happen.

Still no official word on Lizzie or 70000...

    92214
    2807

3205 would be a suitable stand in if any of the planned guests can't make it. The class used to work on this line quite often pre-preservation and she was a regular performer on the WSR in earlier days.

Assuming that South Devon can spare her, mustn't be presumptuous as she's a popular resident at Buckfastleigh. Also assuming that she can pull long enough trains during the gala.

Shouldn't think so, cause of water capacity, no water at Williton as someone decided in the 90's that water was'nt needed!

Is that victor and vulcan or 3205? As I am sure that 3205 could make it from one end to the other no problem?

Yes someone mentioned a Terrier. Dont know if one of them is booked, but the fact remains a water column at Williton would be a definate asset. Ah well , another job for the future!

Thanks missed that post!!! Didn't a terrier come before and work local trains from Minehead to BA? Pretty sure it also ran a couple of full line trains as well on one of the days. What happened about the water then?

If visiting engines are unloaded and loaded at Bishops Lydeard, how did 32678 travel to Minehead to run local trains from Minehead to Blue Anchor without taking water??...And also 30587 which has a smaller water capacity??

  16. Good question. Probably in light steam, doing no work, in convoy, towed by a larger loco.

Some of the smaller locos can be (un)loaded at Minehead - just.

Bellerophon worked the entire length of the line in the company of Thomas last year... What an awesome trip that was.

Bell's water capacity is very limited due to the size of the well tank and it did make it on a full tank!

So I should imagine a Terrier would do it as the capacity is slightly higher I believe.

There is (sometimes) an emergency tank at Williton which was certainly used when the Beattie tank went from B.L to Minehead a few years back, sadly when it is really needed for a true loco water shortage it is usually empty due to freeze ups etc :-(
