Although I didn't know Paul personally, he gave me (and countless others) so much pleasure on a number of spirited main line runs, and I also followed his exploits via Mike Notley's column in the SR mag. A true professional and he will be much missed by all true enthusiasts. RIP Paul.

Fortunately I've been one of the lucky ones to have rode on the footplate with Paul on 76079, feels even more special now. Condolences to his family & friends.

Let's hope Leander & 44871 with 'The Jacobite' headboard give him a proper send off today!

Indeed it was a very moving ceremony as James Shuttleworth spoke from the footplate of 44871 at Carlisle station. A minute's silence followed this being ended with a loud blast of the Black 5 whistle. I felt quite humbled to be a part of it.

Hi, I'm the one you're looking for! I'll gladly send you the photos, either directly (send me a private message) or via 'bknight' who contacted me via Flickr. In fact I have a couple more from 2009 in Scotland, and I'll post those on Flickr shortly.

In fact I was debating whether to send to the railway press the one of Paul and Frank in conversation, because to me it says so much about Paul's nature and about his relationship with Frank.

I had loads of great footplate trips as support crew on NELPG's K1 with Paul who was always cheery and fun, and was never fazed by a problem - like running out of steam on one of the Mallaig line's big banks and having to reverse back and attack once again after a blow-up... :) I was very sad to hear of his passing; he was a genuinely great fella. My condolences to you and the rest of the family.

    Re: Paul Kane RIP.

    Hi Mandy,

I have this pic after the very memorable run down to Preston on his retirement special:
    6201,Preston | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

and also this from earlier in the day:
    6201,Garsdale | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I can send you them both if you pm me your email address.

I will no doubt have some video somewhere, when I do eventually get round to it i'll send you a copy, can't say when that will be as I have so many projects on at the moment.

If you have a list of the stuff/know for certain some things that Paul worked over the years then i'm sure I could provide plenty more.

    Regards,
    Mark
