    Uksteam and David Randles.

I'm sure that all of our members would like to thank David for keeping us up to date during 2010 with his 'uksteam' website.
The hours spent updating the timings and general info must receive a huge thank you from us all.

    Happy New Year, David. <BJ>

Thanks to UK Steam Info, I am able to plan my holidays well in advance, and it has saved me much money in this respect. So I concur that David deserves several pints of beer, a round of applause and a Cornish pasty for the hard work he's done over the last few years. Happy New Year to you all, too...

    I'd echo those sentiments.

I had the pleasure of meeting David last week, in a TSO somewhere between Crowcombe & Bishops Lydeard (behind 5764). I reckon it's fair to say that 'UK Steam info' really is a pretty invaluable service to enthusiasts - we owe him a great degree of thanks.

David - it was a pleasure to meet you, and shake your hand! Thankyou once again.

    Cheers,

    Phil.

The Cathedrals Express from Paddington on Saturday 2 July looks like an interesting trip. Full details have yet to be announced but the destination is shown as Plymouth AND Minehead. Could this possibly mark the return of separate through portion workings in the West Country perhaps ?

Perhaps WCRC have been working on slip coaches? Will we see a Manor waiting in the loop at Norton Fitzwarren to collect them and take them down the branch?
    set daydream = off

Actually, just having a connecting Minehead service waiting in a bay platform at Taunton would be pretty cool. A suitable job for 9466 and/or 9600, I think.

~Is that the trip that was down for Tornado and the 8F, I think it was going to be on a Weekday, the switch to Saturday is a good one but not sure they will get a path as the Mayflower last year could not. It seems the Kent trips pencilled in for the 8F are now TBA so I guess the loco is not coming down. a shame as I was looking forward to the Weymouth Pen Mill leg on the 9th.

I don't think David will ever know just how much reliance is made of his site, many many people would be lost without it. The fella should have a pint laid on from every person who uses his site, if we ever meet matey, there's one from me.
    Many many thanks.

P.S. my young grandchildren like yo as well because without your site they would never see working mainline steam.

From a tour operator standpoint, UK Steam is a bit of a double-edged sword! We do not publish the train times on our site at the request of the TOC's to avoid issues with trespass, platform crowding, etc.

There has been the odd occasion when UK Steam has caused us a few issues by publishing the times BEFORE we have accepted them - the times were therefore inacccurate as sometimes we refuse them for some reason or another. Some of our passengers had looked on UK Steam and gotten the wrong timings and in one instance, missed the train. Why the passenger would ignore the timings we sent them, who knows!

When I have sent UK Steam an email with an issue, they have always been very quick to respond / correct it!

Bottom line - David you are always welcome on our trains! Hope to see lots of you in 2011!
