Has 5224 shrunk in the wash or been exiled to Cornwall in exchange for 5552?
Also your in''complete list of locos'' seems to be missing 08288,12082,33053,37905 and 45132,plus 33208 at Battlefield for repairs.

Sorry for miss numbering 5224. I didn't put the diesel fleet down because I didn't think it was relative to this the topic/thread.

Also maybe of interest to some people. 34105 was in front of the workshop today and was being cleaned by the Saturday volunteers.

    Re: MHR restorations major progress
As mentioned previously, an amazing collection for a railway that only needs 2 engines for its peak season.

was told there once that it actully needs 3 or 4 for peak season.

2 on service, 1 on footplate experience and 1 on washout.

Also missed out and historicly very important is the only surviving vac braked Class 27 D5353 (27007).All the other 27s are dual braked. 33053 and 37905 should be conciderd visitors on long term hire and not MHR locos as the railway has I beleive to pay a hire fee on these locos tho I stand to be corrected and something that wouldnt have been needed if 33109 Captain Bill Smill hadnt been allowed to get involved in the Fragonsett mess and leave the railway as it was a MHR owned loco.!

Saw 31806 in the yard last Sunday whilst dining on "The Countryman" behind 73096. Another top job from Ropley MPD. Look forward to seeing her in action soon.

Also heard that once the JB agreement runs out in 2014 34016 and 73096 will be leaving the MHR for overhauls to ML condition.

Really? That sounds promising, a rebuilt WC on the mainline. 73 Std pretty good too.

73096 might even go sooner than that perhaps?

If this is a likely chance then why not release Bodmin early also it would free up siding space , the standard 5 was always a very potent performer on the main line and imagine if either of those two engine had been availible this year to cover Tangmere whilst she was out for overhaul ,

    Great news.
Look forward to travelling behind 31806 soon.

Of the three Maunsell moguls on the line 31806 was always my favourite and the most reliable too.

But why should the MHR release both locos before the agreement ends. Both locos can still be used as static locos with in the yard at galas and other special events.

Ropley yard is not very big and with new engines arriving it must be a nightmare to shunt - I'd have thought that freeing some extra space would make more sense. It is clear that the MHR Management expect to lose the five engines, and have now made alternative arrangements. Why be dog-in-the-manger-ish about releasing the OOU ones? They're only shooting themselves in the foot by cluttering up their site and providing free storage.

Because they need the space? Maybe?

Dont forget with 34058 SF Pile arriving soon and 80150, they are going to take up a similar "footprint" so to speak, although obviously the BOB has no tender and the standard tank is probably a little shorter than 73096.

Anyway lets wait and see what happens after the Standard5`s ticket expires.

The BR5 ceratinly performed well on the mainline, so well that I wonder if the loco had been modified from the original design. Is this true?

If that is the case then why not release 31874 and 31625 both loco will never run before the agreement ends?
