Fascinating, did,nt know these existed as well. Is there any method/system of detecting cracked wheels these days...........memories of the old wheel tappers that used to frequent stations...

We get a daily e-mail from Network Rail for any activations of the wheelchex equipment at Queenstown Road - helps us plan work for the lathe. Vary rare for one this bad though. The offending coach should be on the back of a lorry heading for Wimbledon lathe as we speak.

D'oh! WheelChex - now I remember the proper name for the kit used by NR!!

Could do with something similar on the Underground.

    Regards,

    Dan

Most likely is, I had another run through my video footage for the day before and it did seem to be IONE making the racket on the rails.

It is an underfloor lathe made by Hegenscheidt. It's pretty old now though, but we used it to turn 35028 & support coach last February and her support coach again last November.

It's definately Ione we've got here.
