Here's my video, mostly of trains storming our of Quorn (especially 4953 whose driver seemed only to know two regulator positions - shut and fully open!), along with all 3 TPO runs (61994 at the end is the best by far), the double header, auto trains and so on. I was also lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time for four passes on the double track, and at one time was "bowled" by a Hall while trying to film City of Truro! Only at the GCR!

Thanks to everyone for putting on such a great gala as usual.

Great videos there Campainr & Lewis, spent a fair bit of time at Quorn myself yesterday. First time i've been to the GCR in a long time and still haven't made it in good weather despite the forecaster's promises earlier in the week. Finances dictated I linesided this time so spent late morning at Quorn before moving onto Rothley via Kinchley lane. Believe it or not this is the first time i've been there so maybe I can now say ive been inflicted with 'Kinchley Lane syndrome'! Sir Lamiel made the trip there very worthwhile. Overall an excellent gala with steam everywhere and from all directions. 30777 put on the star performances for me and seeing 1450 on the windcutters was an unusual sight, well worth the 300 mile round trip!
Few pics attached but the poor light made photgraphy difficult.

I was also there on Saturday and once again the sheer amount of trains running makes a GCR gala an event not to be missed. The sun even shone for the first hour as well!
My photos are now on my fotopic site http://paulgildersleve.fotopic.net/

    Cheers,

Nice photos there! Wasn't able to go this year, I've got a nasty chest infection, but the event is clearly up to the normal standards. I'll be up at the KWVR in a fortnigth, booked the B&B today!

    Regards

Nice shots as usual Paul. I couldn't go as I had other commitments. I was up there on Weds for a charter with 3850 and 5526. The weather wasn't much better then!

I'm amazed at the lack of Sun . From about 1pm to sunset was almost clear skies in Birmingham . Really thought people would be having a cracking afternoon

Quick one for someone in the know . 45305 looks very low at the back end , footplate out of line with the tender and cab below tender height . Is she ok ?

I visited for both days though Saturday morning got off to a bad start but I'll explain that in the Photography forum. I enjoyed the gala; it was my first proper visit to the GCR and the gala style suits it very well. The GC has a very 'trainset' feel to it rather than a well-groomed heritage railway so getting all the toys out of the box makes it an interesting place to be around. I think the railway lacks a general charm but it's a good place to be when the trains are running frequently.

The best things about the gala, for me, were the high density of trains which is great for the photographer to keep trying out new compositions or to correct errors. Having all but one engine face south made it ideal as (almost) everything could be photographed. The variety of stock out and about was good and the staff were friendly, competent and efficient.

There were two down-sides though. Having already spent £36 on a two-day runabout ticket I thought it was a bit cheap to be asking for a supplementary fare for using the Autocoach (I only used it from Loughborough to Quorn this morning). I know the justification for this was to cover the transport costs but the cost of this should have been accounted into the cost of running the gala. I'm aware it's only a couple of quid but when you've spent almost £40 to buy a ticket (which I only used to travel from Loughborough to Quorn and back each day), donate to the Lougborough Canopy Appeal when the lineside stewards came around, it didn't really seem on to have to stump up a couple of quid to ride in something that isn't particularly special.

Secondly, each day the time-keeping was a bit erratic. The engine off the 11.58 arrival at Loughborough was scheduled to depart on the TPO set at 12.00. On both days this ran about 15-20 minutes late, perhaps this was just an oversight on behalf of the timetable planners.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, it was great to see the railway busy on both days.

I visited the Great Central for the first time yesterday. The high density and variety of trains gave me plenty to photgraph, as well have 2 full trips on the line. Loughborough station has plenty of atmosphere late afternoon/ early evening after the stands had packed up.
