Excellent! Hope the 8F boys pull that off, even if it's just for a week before the LMS or BR trnasfers go on.

How about for something different painting it in the green livery that the one in Iraq is/was? in. That would be different.

Sorry to interupt the colour debate, but is there any particular reason why the loco's moving to the GCR -- or is the answer camaflauged somewhere?

The reason was in the original thread I started which I requested be removed as the thread (and myself) got out of hand.
I have been fully furnished with the reasons, the damage and the causes some of which I stated before (which have been verified) which I won't be repeating here.
I think its best to leave the reasons at the door and I, for one, cannot wait to see her in action on the GCR after repairs have been completed. I know Alen and the GCR guys will soon have her up and running again and pulling her weight. There has been some great discussion here on colours, I'm not a rivet counter and even the idea of Southern lettering before she goes to black would be quite fun to do even if only for a week or two with minimal costs incurred.

IIRC it was planned some months ago, long before any talk of alleged damage. Churnet was only ever a visit, as I assume the GC will be. The loco is, after all, nominally based at Wirksworth...

    CORRECTION................

You do not have all of the facts as you have only posted what is either your opinion or that of the GCR and you have not bothered to ask for the CVR's side of the story.

So basically you equate to being a **** stirrer.

You have also failed to mention that the failure that has caused the locomotive to sit out of traffic since November is a re occurance of an issue that has already been attended to twice since the locomotive returned to traffic. Not very good for a locomotive that is only 2 years into its boiler ticket.

I would be very careful when you criticise the CVR on a public forum when you clearly do not have all of the facts, all i will say is lets how the locomotive performs at its new railway.

    Chris

the original and deleted thread did have the CVR statement linked to it . Quite rightly the thread was removed and I have asked the Mods for their collective wisdom on your post at present as this is clearly something which should be resolved in private and not in the public domain such as this . We do try after all to all be friends on here

    Martin,

There has been no statement made by the CVR on 48624, the one that was linked was with regards to 44422.

    Regards

    Chris

Chris: I have collective facts from the owning group, footplate crew and a report made by the boiler inspector whilst the loco was resident on the CVR. We all know you are very closely linked with the CVR and as such would expect you to defend it. I'm sure we would all welcome the CVR's side of the story should you wish to release it, that is entirely up to you.

BUT as I stated earlier, I am not entering into debate regarding railways and I have not criticized the CVR in this thread so I kindly request that your remove the sh!t stirrer reference in your previous post (bottom of the post is a button that says 'edit post').

This thread is about the loco being at the GCR and a 'colourful' (pun intended) discussion on its future uses and livery.

RH: The loco group are based at EVR at Wirksworth, the loco is on hire to the GCR for at least 12 months, possibly two years. Originally the hire to CVR was due to be until around May this year.
I hope the GCR's resident 8F will be restored before 48624 leaves, a photo charter with 2 8F's with windcutter sets passing each other on the double line would be quite spectacular and a first since 1965!

I'm not aware that the GCR nor anyone connected with the GCR has expressed any particular opinion, at least publicly. The only statements I've seen have been along the lines of 'we are having this engine for a bit'.

8624 is to undergo her pre-season checks and maintenance, starting tomorrow. She will be taking part in a gala being organised by the GCR for 9th/10th April. This is planned to feature THREE 8F in steam, plus the ROD and 38XX. I understand the gala is being organised in aid of the Glos/Warks in their present difficulties - a very worthy cause.
