A quick Flying Scotsman update: the*boiler has been lowered onto the rolling chassis at Ian Riley’s yard in Bury. After a few minor adjustments, the boiler fitted well. The next stages of work will include the completion and installation of the superheater system and the fabrication of boiler cladding. Photos are below – more at the Flying Scotsman website.

We’ve also announce that*Flying Scotsman will be temporarily painted in Wartime LNER Black (ahead of her final painting in Apple Green). She’ll appear in this livery during steam tests and commissioning runs this spring/summer, and also at the*Flying Scotsman Preview Weekend on 28-30 May 2011. As our Director Steve Davies said:

“The last time Scotsman was seen in this livery was in World War Two, and this will be the first time that No.4472 or any other North Eastern Pacific has been seen in this livery during its preserved existence.”

We’ve added a new Flying Scotsman events and appearances page to the website – it’s vastly incomplete at this early stage and subject to change, but it gives you a taste of the plans for*Scotsman’s exciting return later this year.

It' good to see 4472 taking shape again and it will be refreshing to see her in a different livery.
