    Hi all

I am due to be going behind 70013 in march on the broadsman tour and i was wondering if anyone had any information about what it is going on with it ???

I heard a rumour that it was going to be having repairs to its firebox after a previous failure is this true or is it just a rumour.

    Any info would be welcome

    Regards
    Jake

It's at Loughborough at the moment, the tender is elsewhere. The boiler has been to Crewe for repairs, I assume it's not too far away from being steamed again?

I was at the GCR Gala at the weekend and had a look at 70013 inside the shed. The boiler didn't go to Crewe on it's own - the whole loco went where it was repaired and successfully steam-tested just before Xmas.

70013 returned to Loughborough after Christmas and the cab is now back on, with the cab fittings going on now. The rear pony truck was taken off for re-wheeling, which should be done any time now.

So it's vurtually there, but looks like there are still a few jobs to finish off.

Looking at the UK Steam Tours page, 70013 is due to run on the main line 14th February, which is two weeks today. Having seen her on Saturday, I would think that may be a tight squeeze but, knowing how that chaps in Loughborough Shed can get things done when they have the bit between their teeth, I wouldn't bet against it.

    Hope this helps

I had a shed tour on Saturday and had a look at 70013. There was a rod on the boiler back-head that runs across the full length and can be operated by both driver and fireman that I didn't recognise, I assumed it was the whistle as I couldn't see a chain or lever in the cab roof (unless it hadn't been refitted). Anyone confirm what this rod does? It's located roughly half-way up the boiler, just above the firebox door.

You are quite correct, it is the whistle valve lever. The actual whistle is behind the RH smoke deflector.

Thanks for confirming that. Looking forward to seeing 70013 back out on the mainline this year again.

You should be behind 70013 for the broadsman as it has been put back from the 19th to the 26th, from what i understand, so that Ollie can pull the train

The Steam Dreams Website is now showing 44932 as the loco for the Lunchtime Train on the 14th.

I'm booked on that tour with my lovely wife Pat. 44932 is a good substitute, nice gutsy engine, just hope it keeps our carriage good and warm!

70013 successfully moved under it's own power up and down the yard a few yards, for the first time yesterday since May 2010, initially to have adjustments done to it's valves.

According the 5305la website, 70013 is going straight to Southall to be re-united with it's tender and get ready for the various booked tours, starting with the Cardiff trip on 1st March.

Just wondering, though, as the loco hasn't run at all since may of last year, wouldn't it need some sort of running in before it hits the main line and after such extensive repairs? Presumably at Southall there is only a few yards of siding - but is this enough to prepeare the loco for main line running?

Also, pity that page advertising this tour on the Steam Dreams website, has a picture of Caerphilly Castle, and not Cardiff Castle!!

Last update on the 5305la.org webpage on 21st Feb said 70013 was being weighed, nothing more has been heard since and the website this morning seems to have disappeared, all I get is a blank white screen at present.
After all the work that has been done to 70013 wouldn't it require a mainline test run before being used for a railtour?
