Recieved an email at somepoint Thursday and thought I'd pass it on:

"It is with sadness that i write this email to advise you that Gerald boden passed away over night i am sure many of you would have known Gerald from around the NVR and his many locomotives B1 1306 Mayflower, Class 40 40106 Atlantic Conveyor and Class 14 locomotives"

I would like to convey my condolences to the family at this sad time.

Sad news indeed. I heard some time ago that he was not a well man but the news still comes as a shock. His contribution to railway preservation was noteworthy. The quality of workmanship and care of his locos was second to none. RIP Gerald.

Seconded. He was a true gentleman as well and it was a pleasure to work with him during SSS2.

Condolences to his family, and thank you to Gerald for everything he did with 1306 over the years. She was a credit to his level of workmanship and care. RIP.

And i wondered how he was ........well now i know

My sentiments echo "Lil bears" a true gentlemen and from my point of view a pleasure to deal with and a good sense of humour

I certainley enjoyed his company at Steel Steam & Stars 2

My thoughts are with his family and friends and the future of Mayflower

This is sad news. One of those who contributed so much much to Preservation by taking on the task of owning and looking after those locos he owned now lost. RIP Gerald.

Very sad news. I've had a couple of cabrides on the 40 at the NVR courtesy of him, and he seemed like a very nice bloke.

Whilst I never met Mr Boden his contribution to preservation has been nothing short of magnificent. Coincidently, before reading this thread, I was just flicking through an old 'Nene Steam' in which he was thanking volunteers for they're hard work with his old portabin and containers on the NVR.

Truly a fantastic man from all accounts. Just sorry i never got to meet him.

Sad news. I met him on several occasions and found him to be a very interesting chap. Some people mistook his massive pride for his locos as rudeness but I believe he just really loved them.

He took the time to talk to me both at the NNR when I was working in the yard and at the Battlefield line last year, (when he did not sound well at all).
