East Lancashire Railway February Gala 26th and 27th February

Saw a spiffingly well prepared 80072 on the low loader waltzing off the M66 at Heap Bridge and away up Rochdale Road to Buckley Wells through the gloom at 07.30 this morning. The speed and ability the trucks handle the job these days is a real contrast to years ago when they were slow large loads with police escort. Just another job now!
I take it the loco's travel empty, without water and coal to keep weight down?

 

I know this is slightly off topic, but what's happening with Black 5 No. 45337?

Absolutely, they travel empty...........reduces load and improves stability

 

Hi Lewis; reading ELR website; 45337 is due back in traffic as a rostered loco for last weekend in March

Absolutely fantastic day. Some of the best performances I've ever seen a steam loco give. I couldn't resist a ride behind the 5 at the end of the day and it must have been full throttle much of the time!

 

I went along on Saturday and once again 73129 had plenty to shout about! Fantastic machine.

Were all sampled and thoroughly enjoyed.

Everything ran to diagram / time as far as I could tell - well done to all involved.
