The times for this are now up on the Steam Dreams website:

    http://www.steamdreams.co.uk/executables/GT410WebContent.exe?ActionCode=Timings

Oliver Cromwell is the rostered loco, in place of Tornado. Are there any signs that she will be ready for this run?

Blimey the trip is almost sold out and they haven't got a loco but they have timings! We didn't bother with this run as it was rather a lot of money for a run to Cardiff from Ascot. Would have done it if it had still been going to Carmarthen. Wonder what will haul this instead of 70013?

Oh, well that's in gauge for Ascot so they won't have to change the route. Be nice to see her out and about again, she was the first preserved loco I saw round the Ascot, Bracknell route.

It is quite likely that 44932 will now haul this train, as 34067 may not be ready in time.

I presume the 60mph limit will not be an issue on the GW (HST) main line. This trip, for various reasons, seems to have had a lot of hicups, 4 different locos allocated & several route alterations.
I believe at one stage it was intended to use 2 different locos on the trip, changing at Bristol Parkway.

Tornado...down to a Stanier 5. Carmarthen...down to Cardiff. Feels like this is going to be a somewhat different trip from that which was planned. Such is the frustration of planning steam trips nowadays it would seem

Glad we didn't book this one now. I would guess that 44932 will have to have "assistance" from a Diesel now as the load is listed as 12 carriages. A frustrating time for railtour operators. Hope the tour goes well though.

What about 44932 which is down as alternative motive power to 34067? Is that at Carnforth too or is it already at Southall?

Sadly you are probably right on that one as it'll be too slow otherwise, especially on starts. It's not a trip I'm now looking forward to. I just hope that Steam Dreams doesn't come to regret using WCR on more of its work. Has anyone carried out a 'poll' on loco substitutions and whether some set-ups have a better track record than others?

    What's the alternative ?

35028 is generally tied to VSOE , 71000 still at Bury , 6201 under maintenance , 60163 minus boiler, 70013 still being put back together , none of which are WCRC's fault . at lease WCRC have 44932 in London and able to deputise .

60019 apparently is out of the frame , 60007 back up at NYMR , 6233 under overhaul , 70000 not quite ready ......

Agreed. This time of year, with less work about, many of the regulars are having winter maintenance. I guess many of them won't have a current 6-monthly ticket, since they're not expecting more work until the spring. 44932 is not the ideal loco for this job, but at least she's steam.

Sooner this silly stepped speed restriction is revised the better, its a little daft that a STD 4 2-6-0 and a black 5 are allowed 60, a Standard 5 is allowed 75 (?) but the same ceiling applies to an A4 ...

A direct translation into mph per driving wheel diameter(inches) makes more sense. Sure if the owners are happy with this then the traction inspector on the day should be allowed a 5% or more leeway on this max.

Allowing faster running on sections of track where modern traction is constantly pushing 100mph would surely alleviate potential problems with late running/ relatively slow steam charters and if they know theres a long stretch of the legs at 80mph down the line theres less pressure on the crew to push the loco to its limits to get to 60mph asap
