Evesham Vale Light Railway FOR SALE

Dear All,

The latest Steam Railway Magazine landed on my doormat today, and, on turning to the 'Narrow Gauge News' pages I was supprised to see that the 15inch gauge line has been put on the market by its current owners after building the railway from stratch over about 10 years, the railway opened in 2002.The owners of the EVLR have decided to move on, the railway is included in the Country Park's future plans although the lease is due for renewal.

Anyone who is interested in the EVLR's future is invited to contact Jim Shackell on 07971 985301 (just to cover myself, these were the details published in Steam Railway Magazine).

As I understand it, the railway is not for sale, the lease to operate it is.

Yes, that bit is unfortunate, I agree. The locos and stock are to remain with the Shackells I believe.

 

so any new owner would have to find theyre own rolling stock? Hmmmmmmm

 

I presume so.

 

Not that hard if you have the cash - Station Road Steam have 3 x 15" gauge coaches for sale at the moment, and I'm sure an Exmoor loco could be found at relatively short notice; there's also plenty of the Hunslet-Jenbach diesels that are easy to convert to 15" gauge as back up.

 

The Shackells don't own everything do they? Admittedly they own most, but St Egwin is owned by one of the volunteers there.

 

count louis is privately owned, shame my euromillions ticket didnt come up friday night, always wanted my own railway!

 

Don't forget the Cleethorpes Coast line is on the market as well!

 

and Markeaton park railway

 

There is nothing I can find on their website to indicate that the railway is for sale and Wikipedia (I know it's not the most reliable source) says that the railway was withdrawn from sale during Winter 2010

Hello everyone. The wikipedia information re Markeaton Park is out of date, it was removed from sale during winter 2010 but has since been put back up for sale. It can be bought as a running railway with lease from Derby City Council or the track and rolling stock can be removed. I was shocked to hear Jim and Helen Shackell have EVLR up for sale, after google brought me here for more information I saw this thread and thought I`d join to clear the matter re MPLR.

 

As before - EVLR is NOT for sale, the lease to operate it is.

Are you seriously asking for an explanation of the difference between a sale and a lease??? If so, I suggest you look it up in a dictionary or elsewhere on the web, there is a massive difference...

the world of buisness is a closed, aha, ledger to me. i merely asked for clarification.

 

Try looking at the Modern Railway - redefine "franchise" as "lease" - and look at your bank balance to see if you can afford it.

 

I was very surprised to read this in view of the excellent railway thats been built at Evesham.
Its not clear to me if its the lease of the site thats for sale or if Jim is proposing to lease the railway and possibly some of the stock.
