Sound like a good idea to me. Will an NRM presence be established at the venue in Canada Anthony? In a similar style to London Waterloo.

    Regards,

    Dan

Thanks Anthony, It sounds like its not as long as I had thought, and if something comes back on reciprical loan then that has to be good too! Waddon would be my choice. How about the great Terrier gathering 5 at the NRM... Ah well we can all dream.

Just to clarify - nothing is planned to come back yet - but relationships are being formed, which are always good things!

I've just been looking at the timetable - it is possible in a day, but I don't have £70.25 to spend (and that's with my 16-25 railcard). Shame though, would really, really like to see her before she goes. Wonder if I can convince my Tutor it's a field trip? I am doing a course in 'Heritage Skills' after all!

It would be hard to "loan" back locomotives which are not a part of the Toronto Railway Heritage Centre's collection as Waddon and Dominion of Canada are (they are a part of the Canadian Railway Museum collection at Exporail in Montreal), though you are welcome to hope for that!

I am frankly, excited that this is now confirmed, and as someone who has been to the NRM on several occasions when on vacation, i look forward to having the opportunity to care for a part of the National Collection while she is on vacation (a working vacation mind you) at the Toronto Railway Heritage Centre for the Railway Children.

Ow! Things have changed since my student days...and that wasn't THAT long ago...I think the day trip to Carlisle and back came in at £30odd though - we didn't do that every weekend - and the Talyllyn was a lot closer!

They do say that you will always come back if you 'kick the bar'.

Only Aber folk will understand that. yo.gif

Intersting move, and not the only one planned for this year????

Mr C, please do not remind me of how early that first train out of Aber was......I had to walk in from Llanbadarn to catch it......however it was fun to watch the sun come up on the way into the midlands.....in a way I'm glad not to have to get up at that time of the morning too often.....

ps with my year as a post-grad in Aber, that makes four in this thread, if I've counted properly!

Appologies for going off subject, bear with an old man reliving his wartime childhood.

Yes Gordon, been there, done that - along with my late mate Graham Jenkins from the TR who on visiting me one day had to go up one side of the cliff railway and down on the other so he could have the track and the haulage... Happy Days!

Now that would be an interesting new-build project - just the right sort of loco for the larger preserved line, too!

I hope the finances for her return have been identified and ring fenced before she leaves our shores, I can remember the problems with 4472 when she went to North America and the company in charge went 'tits up'. Thankfully then we had Mr McAlpine to sort out the mess and repatriate her.

Can we have some assurances from AC?
