Bodywork repairs have now commenced - to my untrained eye (on diesel locos) there would appear to be quite a bit of corrosion!

There often is on those things and generally baby sulzers as a whole. Ive often wondered if it wouldnt be easier to just start again with some of them.

But then thinking on 37's arent much better

    or 50's

    or etc etc etc

Not suprising! :) Anyone who wants to see a 33 "mid TLC" should visit 33102 currently in the shed at Cheddleton (Churnet Valley) - lots of new metal going in!

Any idea how long they expect the work to take?

I tried to get an estimate of how long it will take but no answers were forthcoming. I can confirn that new metal is now replacing iron ore (rust).

One side and half of one end of this loco has now been re-plated. Most of the ribs(?) to which the external bodywork is attached were completely rusted away for the bottom couple of inches or so. These have been replaced with new, preformed, inserts.

As of yesterday both sides and one end have been re-plated and the other end is well underway. One side has been filled and is in green undercoat. Filling and smoothing has progressed about halfway down the other side.

If all goes to plan this loco is due to leave East Somerset Railway next Wednesday for West Somerset Railway. It will need rebuilding of control gear etc. in cabs before it can be run. That work to be completed at WSR. Hope to post photo when we shunt her to rail/road exchange siding next week. She is numbered D6575.
