Chasewater steam gala 19th & 20th March 2011

Seeing as I haven't seen anything about it posted on here lately...

Chasewater's steam gala this weekend, a Bagnall, 2 Barclays, and a Hawthorn Leslie, plus the 08. Day rover a bargain at £4.50!

Planning to travel up from sunny Cardiff for it. Haven't been since about 1978....I see it's changed a bit since then!

 

Been there today, fantastic place spent most of the day behind Colin Mcandrew lovely thing! Well worth a visit by anyone!!

 

Also spent a lot of time with Colin. Interesting to ride on a Shark brake van, and the LNER riding wagon. Enjoyed the others as well.The gradient on the narrow gauge line behind the museum is wacky! I understand the North British diesel may be working passenger tomorrow in addition to todays 4 steam and 1 diesel. Good to see the Bass Brewery loco working. Lovely weather, friendly people. If you're at a loose end tomorrow, pop along!

 

Agreed! I went to the gala today, and thoroughly enjoyed it. There seemed to be almost continuous action at Brownhills West, with plenty of shunting and engines to-ing and fro-ing to see. Indeed, at times it was difficult to know where to look!

I found everyone very friendly, but I must make a special mention for the narrow gauge railway staff, who very kindly offered to show me around their stock. They seemed to be having a lot of fun; indeed, there were 3 engines out during the day (a Hunslet on the passenger train, plus another Hunslet 'CAT' and Lister 'Bolton Fell' on demo freights in the yard). And that's in addition to the 8 locos already in action on the standard gauge!

All very good fun; if you're thinking of going tomorrow, do!

 

First visit yesterday to this line and left very impressed with the set up and location and had a really enjoyable ride on the guardsvan train behind "Colin McAndrew"
