'umble apologies. I forgot about the "its closed notices" scattered over the website. :dizzy: Hopefully its all sorted now, to be fair I only knew MB was open about 6pm Friday (after brushing the signal box out), so it was a bit of rush to get the web sorted and get directions on how to find MB sorted. Once again 'umble apologies.

Today was a very enjoyable day, do come down tomorrow and see it in action and have a ride behind the locos.:becky:

    Cheers

    Chris

No probs - I was just concerned that posts on here didn't reflect the info on your website. Didn't want to see MB inundated with punters if the station was closed, and so causing havoc for your neighbours. Glad it went well today :)

Had a fantastic day yesterday and big thank you to all involved, especially the driver of 3803 who put in some cracking performances. Talking to a member of staff loadings seemed to exceed expectations, which is pleasing news. I do hope this foray into the steam gala market pays off and will certainly support any future steam events. Finally as the timetable says, it really is Leicestershire’s best kept secret!

Can't find the photo's Rick? Here's a few of ours from yesterday - we walked up the canal and caught the train back. Quite tricky finding anywhere that didn't have trees or hedges in the way, hence mostly static station shots. Had a lovely cream tea at Shackerstone and a beer in the fabulous Griddle Car on the way back, bottled sadly as all the draught had gone, but then it was 17.00 on Sunday and the barmaid said they'd had a busy weekend, which is good news for our local line. :)

I've edited Rick's links to folio as opposed to folia , hence why it wasn't working

Will Mkt Bosworth be open now during normal operating days? I know Thomas the Tank Engine is visiting for the next two weekends (ooh exciting), so they're kinda gala weekends but what about on normal operating days?

So presumably you don't have any children, or grandchildren, and you don't think it's a good idea to encourage kids to take an interest in steam heritage railways whilst the railway itself also gains some valuable extra income? So where do you expect the next generation of preservationists to come from exactly, or perhaps once you've shuffled off the whole movement can go hang?

Well, that's where you're largely wrong. While I'll admit that I'd prefer not to see a perfectly good jinty put into such bizarre livery, I do recognise the practicalities of doing so. I shall ignore the rest of your trolling.

I don't know what 'trolling' is, but if you do actually recognise the value of something then please leave out the snide comments in your posts next time, as it tendss to give exactly opposite impression. Iain

Forgive the back seat moderation, but isn't that a bit of an overreaction? I mean, everyone's entitled to an opinion, how often do we hear a tongue in cheek (well, usually) comment about "oh joy, a diesel" or "one of those GWR things", etc? I'm sure everyone on here is mature enough to realise that events such as Thomas are important to a railway, doesn't mean they're sacrosanct and must be talked of in hushed whispers!

    Hi guys,

Just a quick note. For those of you who visited and enjoyed last year's 'Great Western' Steam Gala on the Battlefield Line, you may well like you know that the 2012 gala will take place on MARCH 17TH/18TH.

The present roster is as follows:
    *LMS Black 5 4-6-0 No45379 (headlining)
*GWR 2884 Class Heavy Freight No3803
    *Peckett 0-6-0ST "Sir Gomer"
*Unique Aveiling Porter 2-2-0 "Blue Circle" (Shackerstone Station Pilot)

Thread for the 2012 gala is at http://railways.national-preservati...e-railway-shackerstone-steam-gala-2012-a.html

As many of you will know, just like last years gala, we will be hosting a preservation first. Last year, it was the first 2884 Class on the Shackerstone line. However, 2012 will see us going a little more authentic! Not only will 3803 be showing what the Great Western was all about but we will also be joined by the Mid Hants Railway's fabulous Black 5 No45379. Black 5's were of course performers on the old ANJR route from Nuneaton and of course 45379 herself travelled down the line in BR days!

So, why not come along and enjoy the sights & sounds of a Stanier on the Battlefield Line for the first time since the Jubilee's came in the late 1990s. But, perhaps more importantly, come along and sample the very FIRST Black 5 on the railway in preservtation :)

    Cheers

Not sure i see the purpose of bumping a thread that was last posted on in October when the 2012 thread is already near the top for everyone to notice anyway with the same info....
