Good news. A spokesman for the GWSR has confirmed that the Goods Shed is not intended to be sold.

We will never know I guess whether it was just a rumour, whether the rumour mill forced a change of mind/heart or whether it provided a catalyst for more people to support my favourite heritage line, the GWSR. There is a school of thought of course that websites such as this one serve only to satisfy the loudmouthed urges of the chattering classes and turn us all into petty, snooping amateur journalists. I personally don't subscribe to that view as I find that information and links posted here are generally very helpful and often top class. However, rumours can "take flight" quite quickly. Someone might want to write a dissertation on this subject! Anyway, I'm pleased that the Goods shed will remain GWSR property at least for the moment. Let us now continue to support the reconstruction of the GWSR and many thanks to those other heritage railways that are supporting it in its hour of need.

Actually it was hardly an internet rumour. In the same article in heritage railway it does say if 500k was offered it would be considered. And the members of gwsr even said it had been discussed as an option. The reason i put the post was hopefully to get people to donate and show how desperate the railway is and what extremes it was considering.

Nice one only the 8F doesn't belong to the GWSR!

Well, it seems not to have been a rumour....Broadway Area Group have announced on their website that the 'shed IS to be sold to the Caravan Park who have been leasing it. No sales value is mentioned...
This does not surprise, but does disappoint me. I recently had communication with a director who confirmed that, due to it's dire circumstances, the GWSR would be looking at selling any surplus land or utilities, in order to raise much needed cash.

Selling the "family silver"? You were too right!

One wonders who to believe with all these contradictory statements from apparently "official" sources.

Well, you never do know but I have recently contacted their Press Office, with a view to obtaining a definitive answer and am currently awaiting a reply...

The only website you will ever see official news on is the GWSR's own site. I've been given no news at all to put on the site about this subject.

BUT, the GWSR's website is designed as a marketing tool for the public, which is exactly how it should be! So, discussions such as this and other "internal" affairs will never appear!
Perhaps it is time to consider a "member's only" forum, on the website, where such discussions can be had?

Jimbob, can you post a link to the webpage that states the goods shed has been sold? I have searched around and cannot find it?

With regards to your third post, I fail to see why there is a need for internal affairs to appear? There are already forums (such as this one) for people to discuss and ruminate on this that and the other. I would suggest that at this time the efforts of all involved in the GWSR are best spent in getting a fully operational line running from Laverton to Cheltenham and in due course to Broadway (hopefully with goods shed, but if not so be it).

    Sir Handel,

    Visit: www. broadwaystation.co.uk.

As for my third post, I was simply referring to Steve (GWSR webmaster's) comment that, because (apparently) only news on the GWSR's own website could be trusted, that it could not be true! Firstly, should news of this sort be put on a Company's website (which I view as, simply, a marketing tool, i.e: to encourage visitor's to the Railway)? Secondly, one of GWSR's directors is actively engaged with the Broadway Area Group, so perhaps some "insider" knowledge?

I didn't say "only news on the GWSR's own website could be trusted" I said that the only place you will see official news is on our website. Yes it is a marketing tool but we also publish an awful lot of news items and features covering a wide range of topics. Trust me if it was just a marketing tool the small group of us who put it together would not be spending so much time on it we'd hand if over to a 3rd party who only ever updated it once a year with a new timetable.

The Broadway website mentioned above was last updated on 10th March 2011 (according to the site itself) - a lot could've happened since then!

Another website here (showing work in progress) has a report from the 15th March which quotes the GWSR spokesman saying that the shed is NOT for sale.

And the latest heritage railway does say that if an offer of 500k was put forward from the camping site then it would.seriously consider selling. So i think its a case of only if the price is right. Which i think is the right option so they don't get ripped off because everyone knows how desperate they are. Gavin

And I wonder, when was the editorial cut-off date for the inclusion of Ian Crowder's remarks in the magazine? I would have thought that the Broadway Area Group's
"breaking news" would be more up-to-date than that! Btw, I'm still awaiting a reply from the GWSR's press office (see previous comments)!

This little rumour needs to be strangled or confirmed now by the GWSR; such uncertainties do nobody any good.
