46115 has made it up Miles Platting bank from a standing start, so provided the load is reasonable, 5043 should do, too. It seems to me that these two are very evenly matched.

Yeah - but all that copper must be a hindrance. Stop long enough in Collyhurst - think Shameless - and it won't be much longer

Tut, tut, Ralph how dare you suggest such a thing after the Earl's stroll over the S&C last year? Surely everyone now acknowledges that 5043 is the worlds best hill climber since Sir Edmund Hillary climbed Everest.:biggrin1:

I can never recall a GWR loco passing through the Calder Valley, let alone climbing Copy Pit. Has this ever happened?

The Scot "did" Miles Plating from a standing start, it's perhaps best if they let your machine have a rolling start through Man. Vic. It'll save any embarrassment. :peace:

After her previous exploits oop north I'd have thought you lot would know better than to wind up the folks from TLW. It just makes them even more determined to flatten those hills of yours.:)

Well I was torn between going east to see "Bittern"and viewing in the Calder Valley........choice made, Calder Valley. It will bring back memories of my school holidays spent in Warwickshire, more often than not in the Southam area.

I think not David. It is far more practical to spend the money on another tin of Brasso and some waxoil for the copper top than go around buying humble pies for this lot. The depth of their ill founded beliefs are beyond recall by feeding them humble pie. At least they provide some amusement for some of us to smile at on this site!

    Regards
    Bob

Nothing like a bit of banter to keep you on your toes Bob.. I for one, despite my posts, am very happy to see you laying to rest the ghosts that dogged GW locos on our northern hills. The bark of a Castle should echo well round the modern tower blocks east of Victoria station and I for one will be there with camera running, and Copy Pit, well no doubt the crowds will be out in their hundreds for that sight and sound as well. All we need now are some times.

We still have a few seats left on this one.....give the office a ring to book your last-minute seats.

    That's alright Ben, we don't mind. ;-)

Can you help us with the revised times, please? Just a few key places, such as water stops and junctions would help. TIA.

I'm sure 5043 will do a brilliant job on the hills. Dropping down into Huddersfield and Accrington for example....! ;-)
