Just received info about this holiday being run by HF Holidays from their country house at Dolgellau in Snowdonia (no links with HF Railtours, totally different company). It's a week with visits to the Bala Lake Railway, the Talyllyn Railway, the Fairbourne Railway, the Vale of Rheidol Railway, the Corris Railway, the Welsh Highland Railway and the Welshpool and Llanfair Railway, plus a day when you can optionally visit the Ffestiniog or the Llangollen railway.

We are going to book it this week.

I've been on about fifteen HF Holidays and they are very good, they won the Guardian/Observer "best large holiday company" award last year. Their holidays are based in country houses with great food and sociability, and very good quality accommodation.

The itinerary is here: http://www.hfholidays.co.uk/holidays/great-little-trains-wales/holiday-itinerary, plus all the info you need to book. Their home page is: http://www.hfholidays.co.uk

May see some of you there, I hope :)

We'll be up to see you on the Thursday for sure. :tea:

Please can you have Foxcote Manor all cleaned up, steamed up and ready to go! :)

PS what's the best way to get to you if we're staying in Dolgellau?

Just a quick mention that no-one at the Corris knows anything about this group visit.

They are however very keen to be of assistance and as hospitable as a volunteer run line in mid week can be but in spite of my e-mailing the organisors no reply has been received!

Maybe omeone on the trip could tip them off? I can guarantee the party would have a great time at the line.

Thanks Mike, we are booked on this holiday, and I had another look at the itinerary. (http://www.hfholidays.co.uk/holidays/great-little-trains-wales/holiday-itinerary) For Day 4, it says that we are going to the Vale Of Rheidol railway, and then on the way back "we can stop to visit the Corris Railway. Here the preservation society have reopened a one mile stretch of the line and have an interesting display which illustrates the line’s once busy past transporting slate." That sounds to me like an "if people want" kind of thing, rather than a definite planned visit. However, I am sure I for one will be encouraging them to make the stop. Would 16 or so people dropping in unexpectedly be any problem?

Ta for the reply! Just dropping in unannounced would be a disater I'd say. The museum would be closed, the engine shed locked and little to look at without trespassing.

I did e-mail the organisors saying 'get in touch' and have had no reply.

My understanding is that if they did get in touch with the right people at the very least the museum could be open but that other plans could be made assuming we could get volunteers in for a set time of arrival.

Finally, and I am biased of course, I reckon you'd have a great visit and probably end up coming back to see us again. It's that sort of place!

I've just tried to book this holiday/tour but they are only running one week this year and it is fully booked.Next year they expect to run more dates.

I have emailed them tonight to ask for their comments.

PS - Springers, you should have been quicker off the mark :)
