Ooh yes please. Is 2015 the 80th Anniversary of the Silver Jubilee and the A4's so maybe a return to Silver Link could work for that.

It is indeed as well as being the 75th anniversary of the Battle Of Britain. Nice to get a "get together" of Bulleid BBs for that.

The last time I saw anything like the pic on #166 was a slightly different coloured Silver Link at Stephenson Railway Museum at North Shields. That looked pretty good as well.
I wondered what they did with those valances.
What will crowd control be like at Tyne Yard??? Chaos I expect.

I think chaos is an understatement!

It's going to be busy all the way from KX - I just hope that the idiot brigade will take the day off, (in reference to Lizzies trip last Saturday) otherwise the BTP will be having a very busy day, never mind the crowd control at York!

I suspect the valances are the same ones...they went with the engine during its changes of ownership. I'm not going anywhere near Tyne Yard, but an overbridge near Sedgefield on the race track should be a good vantage point.

Renaming it after this locomotive is also a nice gesture after the earthquake at Christchurch. Full marks for that :).

On Youtube there is a 30 second video taken of Bittern in steam as 4492 at an unspecified station probably from the test the other day. It kind of acts like a teaser (for me anyway) with only a bit of the front end and the stainless steel LNER letters on the tender being shown.

Pity it was all close up stuff, does not give you a proper impression of what she looks like at all.

I was going to ask for the reason behind the re-numbering / naming - is that the real reason or is it something else?

I was told by a member of the support crew that the owner felt his A4 was somewhat overshadowed by 60007 and 60009 and the "rebranding" was aimed at well and truly getting it in the spotlight. It's certainly done that going by the reaction on here.

The one the magazines are going with is that Roland Kennington was behind the idea. He wanted a Kings Cross based Coronation A4 and 4492 was the only one (or only non preserved of the batch of the Coronation A4's).

But I suppose that there may be work for 3 A4's. 4492 in close to orginal condition (except features Bittern has that 4492 didn't have like double chimney and double Kylchap), 60007 in BR Blue and post war speed record holder and named after its designer and 60009 will please the Brunswick Green followers so there's something for everyone. Plus they all coped well before 60009 was withdrawn.

I wonder if they have the correct type of whistle for Dominion of New Zealand. The original went to the Ffestiniog Railway but was 'liberated' from Boston Lodge many years ago.
