    Steam returned to the North Tyneside Railway (aka The Stephenson Railway Museum)
    Peckett Ashington No.5.

    as you can tell from the photos, the weather was on the turn, Start of snow.

    Peckett 'Ashington No. 5' This 0-6-0 saddle tank was built in 1939 as works number 1979 by Peckitt & Sons of Bristol for Ashington Coal Company which operated one of Britain's most extensive colliery railway systems. In 1939, two identical locomotives were delivered to one of peckett's standard designs and they received the names Ashington No 5 & Ashington No 6. The former spent her entire industrial career on the railway for which she was built. In 1969 she was sold by the National Coal Board to North Norfolk Preserved Railway because the Ashington system was dieselised. However she returned to Northumberland in 1991 and repainted into its original Ashington colours. It was additionally named 'Jackie Milburn' in honour of the local football hero.

    This run was a thank you to all those that had helped rise the money to get Ashington No.5 back in serivce.
    As well thank you to the Voulenteers for the warm welcome.

    Pleased to see some 'proper ' motive power returning to this site.
    To think 'Bittern' was once at home there!!
    It would be good to hear more about what is happening there, or even what is planned?

    I know couple voulenteers, been talking about them about other froums of Advertising, and they get the "joe public" in but no one railway related, so one of the voulneteers has signed upto the froum, and will keep you's upto date on the goings on at the North Tyneside.

    A quick update! Ashington No.5 is currently in the paint shop. It is near the end of its repaint and looks amazing! Definitely worth coming in for a look and a few pictures. Some great open spaces on the line to get good photos as well.
