Bit pee'd off a decision was made not to route through Church Fenton as publicised (along with another 30 odd folk on Fenton station and no doubt a similar number at Sherburn). I'll have to shuffle over to NRM...

Witnessing the Castle over Copy Pit this morning meant missing 'The Great Britain IV' with LNER A4 No.4492. We did however have the opportunity to see her this evening heading back to York.

Aye I'm a bit annoyed at that too. I decided to chance it down by Gascoigne Wood, figured it was worth trying to get a shot of 4492 on lines without the overhead wires. I had a feeling it would continue down the ECML, it seemed odd it would divert off down a slow-ish line only to rejoin the ECML 20 minutes later. Pure gutted, haha! Never mind I'm sure there will be plenty of oppertunities to see the loco in the future.

Anyone know where 4492 will be going when she leaves the NRM? North/South on a tour? Light engine? Might be able to catch her then.

Probably the same helicopter I saw at Hornsey hovering over Finsbury Park area. Not sure if its the Police as they were there for the football

when the Duchess came through a couple of years ago. 4492 a bit disappointing at Hornsey, they put her on the far slow line and the diesel backup

right behind on the fast. Looked superb though.

It seemed to follow the train from the videos I've seen so I doubt its the football.

Here's a short video of 4492 climbing Stoke bank and from the Great North Road at Sutton-on-Trent.

Surprisingly, the helicopter wasn't pacing the climb to Stoke, where the light and steam-trail were perfect, but was on the flat bit where conditions weren't so good. It was the same chopper that chased Tornado in '09 on the Top Gear run and Bittern on the final leg of GB3 last year (which was the occasion that the pilot was reported to the CAA and prosecuted).

At Creeton, a WCRC class 47 went down about 10 - 15 minutes ahead of the tour. 4492 was spot on time at Sutton-on-Trent. I guess that whatever she was supposed to give way to at the next loop was running late, so they waved her straight through and up the main to York.

BTW, any news of today's section?

I've seen one video of 46115 Scots Guardsman coming off the Forth Bridge today with quite a crowd but thats it so far.

Looking at the videos it seems 4492 on the Kings Cross to York section is more popular as I've not seen many of 60007.

Sounds like the helicopter is what I was thinking of then.

The first one looks like it's been quite heavily worked on. The second one is beautiful, seems to have a more natural feel to it.

I made a trip to York yesterday on the UK rail tour from Woking to York. I must say 60019/4492 looks a lot better in blue compared to BR Green. Standing on the opposite platform to 60019/4492 on York station at the far end. I was waiting for the departure of 60019/4492 when the rail tour supporting/backup loco 47760 stopped in everyone’s view which caused everyone to make a dash for the end ramp. Now unable to take a photo I watched more and more photographers trespass on to the track bed at the country end of the station. One photographer also got in everyone’s view and was called a number of unrepeatable names.
