Thanks, it was there about 20 minutes before the train turned up, in the field close to the the main road.

Has anyone posted photographs from the crag or hill behind the main road?

There were times when the deer seemed quite agitated and I half expected it to try and jump over the wall.

I've seen 5043 at Shap on "Castle over Shap", Ais gill on "Pride of Swindon" and now at Copy pit on "The Red Rose" and I have to say that this loco is, to use the american vernacular, "AWESOME"! Thats coming from an LMS man, brought up on "Jubs","Pats", "Scots", "Prinnies" and "Semis" but for punching over its weight this machine takes some beating!!
Another great day out for me!! Many thanks to all concerned, especially the crew!!

I wondered if this was the case as you could see the steam "escaping" shall we say.

Cracking video's and photo's chaps, looks as though it was another smashing run! Salty, were you support crewing on this run?

It remains to be seen what the blue king will do! The green king would certainly do better in good order and in the right hands, they weren't fitted with double chimneys for nothing..... It is also worth remembering that even on the epic 22 coach test train that the western region did with a single chimney king in the same form as 6023 that they didn't record anywhere near the 2000edhp level that 5043 achieved on the s & c last year.

Glad you guys got a delivery of coal that will burn in funny narrow fireboxes for once. If our machinery had to be fed on caviar and foie gras to get it to work I've no idea how it would perform - because it just gets normal northern stuff on which it seems to perform day in day out. :peep:

Gas Guzzler is once more taxed and on the road - but we are currently on vacation with our stealthmobile - see http://www.pprune.org/6397599-post3305.html for the results to date. Another occasion, maybe Bob! - look for the cloud of dust by day :car: :thumb:

Just found this clip from Victoria, which has some bearing on 5043s fairly rapid climb of Miles Platting. And at the end a dash through Wigan with a suitable expletive from someone near the camera...

Had a good day chasing this one with my good friend David Oldham (some of you may know him).

Here are a couple of shots from the day: Seen at Copy Pit and at Warrington Bank Quay on the return.

Ben - any chance I could get a high-res of the Copy Pit picture with a copyright on the bottom?

I'm fairly sure the driver for the Crewe to Crewe section was Mick Kelly, certainly looked like him on a video at Man Vic, someone said it was Ray south of Crewe, but which one I did not catch.
