Hi Stuart, not seen anything from you for a bit, thought you had given up on us, then you come back with this.... Your shots are always so crisp and sharp.

Correct! Train has just cleared the site of the water troughs and is on the straight towards, as it was know to the locals "Foot" station. Top left corner of the picture is St Peters church, Sowerby. Pronounced Sor-bie.
    Regards,
    John.

Actually, when all things are considered, it wasn't THAT good a performance. After all, a 4 cylindered loco on a relatively short 9 coach train should present no probs at all. 45407 gave a much better MEASURED run up Copy Pit some years ago. Dont get me wrong, 5043 is a brilliant loco and was handled amazingly. Things almost went awry in the last half mile to the summit with a bit of a power struggle at the regulator.

Indeed excellent shot..........thought I was the only one that knew that spot..........I think the Ferrybridge one takes some beating....

Thanks Ralph, first mainline shot of the year for me as "Tangmere" didn't show the other week.

I didn't get time to post it at the weekend as I was off to Olivers Mount on Sunday as you may have seen on my website.

By the way the sound on that video of yours was something else! :thumb:

Thanks Stuart, the sound is not perfect but very effective.

Just had a look at the Olivers Mount collection, how do tyres stick at those angles of lean??

My GPS record shows a very steady climb by 5043 with speed between 35 and 38 mph most of the way, accelerating up to 40mph towards the top where the regulator was then eased as explained by Bob Meanley. Speed at the summit was a shade over 30mph. It seemed very "measured" to me !

that a 4 cylinder loco with a meagre 9 coaches should have had no difficulty at any point on the route. And this proved to be the case.

Here's my shot of 5043 as she crosses the 'border' from Yorkshire into Lancashire near Dean Farm, Copy Pit.

Somebody has suggested running a tour with 5043 and 6201 double headed to see how much combined noise they could make!

Nothing special about the coal Frank, just everday normal best Warwickshire hards from Daw Mill i'm afraid. You appear to have fallen for the fallacy that GW engines can't burn anything other than Welsh. Personally, I wouldn't entertain the stuff that gets touted as Welsh coal nowadays. Besides being too expensive it comes with the additional cost of all the firebars that it burns. The Earl has rarely been provided with anything other than Daw Mill and the runs over Shap, the S&C and the Bristolian were all powered by a bit of Warwickshire.

Glad to hear that the gas guzzler is back on the road, fabulous sounding things, but you must have a hell of a pension to afford all that gas and the tyres that must get consumed making all that dust.

    Regards
    Bob

Not that would be some sound. Just a pity that the timings on Saturday could not have been tweaked to have the tours leaving Crewe together, not a race of course, just parallel running.
