Shap Locations Please Chaps...........

Hi everyone

I'm on holiday in the Lake District next week and would like to see 46115 running southbound over Shap, although as I'd call Birmingham quite far north so I have no idea where to go! There seem to be lots of locations to see Northbound trains, but I can't find any info at all on locations to see Southbound trains. I'd be very grateful if anyone could give me some ideas, bearing in mind that I would perhaps like to try some video so I don't want to get too close to the M6 (if thats anywhere near the line north of Shap - I really have no idea!hwell

I'm not a local but for what it's worth..... I think if you want to see it working and travelling south you would need to go north of Shap. The only place I know with a decent stretch for video is just north of Penrith. If you leave Penrith going north on the A6 you will come to a roundabout at which a left turn will take you to Junction 41 roundabout of the M6. Go over the M6 and continue all the way round, back over the M6 then take the first exit. This road runs right alongside the railway line and if I remember correctly, there's some high metal fencing for some distance, but carry on and you'll eventually come to some fields where you can park up and get some decent vid'. Continue along this road, do a right turn and your back on the A6. I've no doubt there are others who know better places but I HTH's

Check out Great Strickland on Google earth - Half way between Penrith & Shap, Its just off the A6 and the road goes down a hill and under a bridge and on towards the village.
Possibility of a shot on the decent side of the road.
