A thread in which to discuss anything about the North Norfolk Raiway.

The North Norfolk Railway is to donate the income from Easter Saturday to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, which has recently been crippled by two landslips. The Railway suffered two severe embankment collapses, which have divided the railway in half. The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway is currently limited to running a railcar service from it's Toddington headquarters, and a steam service from Cheltenham Racecourse to Winchcombe, and no service along the central section from Toddington to Winchcombe.

The North Norfolk Railway hopes to raise in excess of £10,000 for the GWR, to quote NNR Managing Director Hugh Harkett "When disasters like the embankment collapses on the GWSR happen, it’s vital that all of us in the heritage railway movement rally round". Members of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway will be on hand during Easter Weekend to spearhead the fundraising effort

I know this is great news for the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, it's great to see other railways helping one and other.

Has there been any further discussion or thoughts about further extending the line into Holt?

I noticed it was mentioned at a Holt Town Council meeting last year.

I doubt it has gone any further, and the situation regarding this may have changed as the meeting was last year.

Are there any plans around the Runton triangle? Would make it a lot easier to bring in specials from the main line. But I guess that is at the mercy of network rail?

I doubt there are any plans around the Runton Triangle, and yes it is the hands of Network rail. Though the embankment still remains from the old triangle though, I don't think it will be reinstated, and if it were it would be a long time until it was, because of costs.

I have been told that the caravan site owner next to the Runton triangle has cut into the enbankment in order to get more caravans on the site, have you heard this?

Great to see the Vintage Mobile Cinema standing next to Sheringham station yesterday and Melvyn Bragg filming a new series of Reel History of Britain - all good for the area.

    Regards,

    Jonathan

As far as I am aware the emabnkment is still there and as it were when the triangle was in use, I may well be wrong though.

I saw recently that the NNR got planning permission for station buildings on platform 2, which should really add something to Sheringham station! Does anyone have any idea whether this is a short to medium term project or a longer term plan. Looking forward to seeing a footbridge there as well to complete the feel.
    Regards,
    Sam

I look forward to seeing the new platform improvements, it should look very impressive if the architectural style of the rest of the NNR is maintained in its design (we all know what a peach Weybourne is). Its such a pity that the main National rail station (if you can call it that) is so poor in comparison to the NNR's Sheringham.

On the subject of the Sheringham footbridge, there are a few around for sale, but again it comes down to cost. This one for example would be a good candidate it is for sale, but again it's downfall might be costs : http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/402127 .

Does anyone know the planned timetable in operation for "Quad Art Week"?

I would guess yellow, with the Quads being the steam set, but I saw an image of steam locos passing which made me doubt this. Is the service upgraded to red for the week, or is a special timetable in operation?

This is the first time (hopefully!) seeing the set in the flesh, so I don't personally have previous years to go off, so wondered if anyone else can recall what happened last year etc?

Chris, I believe in the past couple of years the service has been RED with the Quads starting on the 09.45 departure from Sheringham.

Thanks for that. I've got my fingers crossed I'll see L99 or the J15 on the set :)

The L99 may be out for some time, it has a cracked firebox.

If red timetable is in operation, does that mean the diesel demonstration freight set will be out on the two Sundays that open/close the Quad Art week?

I was of the understanding it was normally a yellow service but run with 2 steam locos (essentially the same but the end of the day is different)
