I hope you have to make no more changes as looking at the webcam Merddin seemed to go poorly today. I hope it is nothing serious.

Good to see Palmeston having a run. For some reason I have a soft spot for that loco and although I have not studied the timetable to see what set it is pulling, oreven if it gives such details, Palmeston especially if on say the Victorian set appeals to me much more than seeing the Mallet does.

    Sounds painful,

I hope Blanche is nothing serious on the failure front?

Promises to be an excellent few days I think - going to have to try and get over at some point.

The sight of Linda back again is something special. Congratulations to all concerned.

    Rich.

Could I suggest Sunday 1st May, you could do the FR/Rhe and then spend the evening at the WHHR

Beer, barbecue, steam trains, and live music could there be a better combination?

You are cordially invited to the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway in Porthmadog to join an evening celebrating all things Narrow Gauge. As part of our May bank holiday Gala on Sunday 1st May, we will be running an intensive evening service between Porthmadog and Pen-Y-Mount, from 6.30pm till 10pm with all trains stopping at Gelert’s Farm, where you can view our museum, while enjoying a beer and a burger (other food types will be available.)

We will also have a vintage Super-8 film show, covering the early days of the WHR and FR’s preservation plus some other early railway restoration activities. Or just travel up and down the line enjoying “First Class” travel in our superbly restored Buffet Car. The engine shed will be filled with the sounds of our in house Jazz band, made up of local railway volunteers. So why not join us for the evening?

Entry to this event is by means of a £3 donation to the RUSSELL Fund. This covers unlimited train travel during the evening and entry to the shed and Museum. Food and drink charges will apply.

This evening event is open to all card carrying members of any heritage railway.

    Friday 29th April – Monday 2nd May.

Sit back while we treat you like royalty, includes visiting engine ELIDIR courtesy of Llanberis Lake Railway, long term visitor GERTRUDE, a chance to Sample some Polish LyD2 diesel action and resident Bagnall steam engine GELERT. Plus Drive an engine, Model railways, children’s activities and lots more. Check out http://www.whr.co.uk for more details.

Can't wait. Shame about Blanche but it will be good to see Linda running again. The details and info for this event, especially the free tmetables, have been excellent and very much appreciated. Hope the railway does well over the week.

    :sorry:

    Another day, another roster...

...as a result of the current weather conditions!

"You put your little 'Lyd' in - You take your little 'Palm' out
    In, Out - In, Out
    ...and change it all about"

So, here for your delectation is an updated version of the 'Week 17' F&WHR Loco Roster...

...or you could just wait and see what tomorrow might bring - 'cos I can't promise it won't change again!

    :confused1:

I'll probably be in the Ministry of Public Enlightenment. Get the booking office people to give me a call.

I knew I should not have posted that I was looking forward to seeing Palmeston in action as much or more than most other locos!

Be prepeared for another considerable change due to Timmy Mallet suffering hot box today, though it should lead to more authentic vintage trains.

A coincidence perhaps but Chevallier also emerged straight from overhaul to run on one of the more challenging Welsh lines (WLLR) only to suffer from axlebox problems. Narrow gauge railways can be tough on machinery.

By the way wasn't K1 similarly afflicted?

I'd hardly say that 'Lyd' on FR Victorian stock was more authentic..!

Well, here we go again. Latest version of the loco roster attached...

According to the Spring Thing leaflet there should be footplate rides at Waunfawr on Monday 25th - is that happening? It isn't shown on the roster.

It's all gone very quiet on that subject...

When the leaflet was being prepared, it had been proposed to transfer VB 'Leary' to Waunfawr by road - but I've not heard anything since.

Despite what has appeared on another website - it has never been planned for 'Lilla' and 'Britomart' to operate footplate rides at Waunfawr...

Ah, the text message I received made it sound like it was going to be Merddin on Tue & Wen.

Ok. well, anyway, it's still worth going to Waunfawr tomorrow - the pub's brewed some special beer, and there is a car boot sale thingy where there will certainly be model railway stuff, meccano etc. I believe there will be face painting, bouncy castle etc. for the kids as well.

Castell Caernarfon is doing cab rides at Waunfawr. Ignore fanciful, inaccurate or just plain imaginary 'news' on other sites.
