Thank you James for the reason behind the 47 as a lot of people have a pop at you and WCRC for some strange reason . Regards Steve

Well done Mr H and his team -- having read so much about him in recent years, good to put a face to the name. The mainline steam movement has a lot to thank him for.

Had a great week chasing GBIV throughout the land with many ups and downs along the way, managed to cop John O Groats whilst on the trip too!

My photos from Days 1-6 are now on my site with the rest to be added soon............

Thanks to everyone for organising this tour, really seems to have been a great success and the loco performances have more than shown this! My Dad has had a great time on board too, thanks to all at RTC,NR,WCRC etc.

A pal of mine was around Forsinard snapping it and was there for quite some time before the train came. Before train came = no fire, no smoke, nothing. As soon as it passed, the veg started smouldering. The Northern Times has this quote from a warden at Forsinard: "There was a strip of fire parallel to the rail track".

4sq miles of internationally-important nesting ground, and an SSSI, torched during breeding season. Not good.

    YIPEEEEEEEEE!

But will we be blessed with the same great news on Sunday on Isambard's carpet? I saw on You Tube some footage of a previous GB railtour going through Keynsham behind 5029 and on the back was, yes you've guessed it, a diesel.

On such a special day as Easter Sunday, let us pray that this does not happen this time!

That makes a very great deal of sense James. Especially if, as I imagine it would have been, the cost of doing that is factored into the pricing structure.

PS. And it gives dual traction enthusiasts a chance of getting phots of steam and a box in quite a short space of time!

Well you can tell Dobbin he can put away his telescope now - We are on East Coast heading north to retrieve the Jag and go sailing.

Ham and Eggs and coffee organised - sorted!

Is this site very heavy to load up? We tried to post that we had passed 5231 and Cromwell near Swindon last night, but getting Nat Pres on a Nokia seems an eternal pain. I managed to get in and post - but nothing appeared. It seems just as slow on a Blackberry

Yes GBIV has been well delivered by the hands on railwaymen and support crews in the final event; so - well done to all the operators and crews, onboard, as well as locos, who delivered the finished article, and let's just hope that no problems are attached to 5407 and 4871 on Monday as no-one wants compo aggro.

GBV will apparently feature 61994 smokebox first from Kyle - a nice change.

Now for some LNER three cylinder compound action.

I was up there too, about 1/2 a mile from the station. After the train passed I started walking back to the car. After a minute or so I looked back round and there was black smoke rising from behind the other side of the line. There was another smaller fire about 1/4 further south that I saw still burning, but without the vast amounts of smoke.

I actually went up to Wick and Thurso the previous week, looking at spots for photos, and there were already vast patches either burning or that had recently been ablaze. I was surprised to see the 47 still on the back passing Forsinard, I would've thought it would've followed the train down. Surely there must've been a path for it?

Just got into redruth about 25 mins early. I missed it at the bridge i had found, only to get back to my home in Redruth which is right next to the station, and my relations who are staying with me for easter saying how good it was to see a steamtrain in the station!
