A quick look through, and there is the odd day when a loco is just on the goods - 80072 the first Friday, 45212 on the Tuesday are all I can see. That said, I am working form the Guards' Diagrams, which show locos but may not be the final version of diagrams (their aim is to show us guards when we are working!). I would have thought any changes would see locos needing to do more rather than less but those are the only 2 examples I can see at the moment!

I've just booked the B&B through the Tourist Office in Pickering. Apparently I got the last single room in the town!

There are quite a lot of photo locations just around the corner from New Bridge.

    1. Trout Farm Crossing, half way along the road from Pickering to New Bridge.

    2. Park Gate [1], After the crossing there is a lane to the right, head down here. After about half a mile there is a single house, opposite the house is a huge gap in the hedge. Through this gap you can get a great panning shot of the trains.
Photo Available Here (2nd Photo down of 60019). Trains are usually rolling on the approach to New Bridge and trains heading North are usually working slightly.

    3. Part Gate [2], After location 2 continue along the lane, it will turn to a dirt track shortly after the house, after a few hundred yards you will get the following view. A personal favourite for northbound services.
Photo Available Here (5th Photo down of 53809).

    4. Hunting Bridge, After Location Number 3 continue along the dirt track, just after a few trees there is a foot crossing on your right hand side. Cross the line into the field (It is a public footpath).
Photo (Northbound) Available Here (3rd Photo down of 44871). This is northbound service which are usually tender first.
Photo (Southbound) Available Here (4th Photo down of 44871). This is the southbound service which can be seen for a decent distance.

    5. Kingthorpe Curves If you was to continue along the orginal footpath to location No.4 before crossing the line you will follow a footpath that follows the line for about half a mile. After about half a mile you can turn right which takes you to Kingthorpe Curve crossing, the view from here wasn't that good many years ago when I walked the footpath, last time I was there I accessed it from the lineside. Either way trains are usually shut off anyway due to the curves. Also a popular location for the Adders.

    6. Depending on how much your prepared to walk, there is Farworth. A nice, tranquil location, Map Here
Photo (Southbound) Available Here (5th Photo down of 44871).
Photo (Northbound) Available Here (6th Photo down of 76079).

Apart from that, the line is mainly in trees around this area. Hope this helps.

You've done well at this stage!

I am guarding Grosmont to Pickeirng both 7th and 8th (bit of a guest appearance - usually at the north end into Whitby!), so say hello if you see me (I'm rather too large, glasses and a guard's hat)

80072 worked through to Grosmont today and 44871 and 45407 arrived this evening from Scotland. 71000 due Tuesday.

I'm hoping not many, or any Steam Locomotive does fail like the last Spring Gala. I doubt it'll happen again as most of the fleet seem to be Maintained to a very high Standard. Theres always the odd failure but it seems to be normally quickly resolved.

Unfortunately, 49395 is unlikely to appear during the event. The loco will be replaced by 6619, which will also run other days - in total:

    Sunday 1st May
    Monday 2nd May
    Friday 6th May replacing 49395
    Saturday 7th May replacing 49395
    Sunday 8th May

As is known, 6619 is for sale and is likely to leave the NYMR shortly, so this will be amongst the last chances to sample the loco.

George - we have not planned full usage of the available fleet on any one day for a variety of reasons but this makes substitutions more straightforward if there is a problem - which hopefully there won't be!

I've downloaded the brochure but there doesn't seem to be any info on which way the locos will be facing. Does anyone know? I'll be there for the first weekend.

All locos are likely to be facing South i.e smokebox first into Pickering. The only exception is 45212 which I believe is still facing North.

Are there any plans to turn 45212 before the gala?

Hope not, it's useful to have a loco facing the other way, at least from a video point of view.

I believe that 45212 is planned to be turned by "Black Five Friday", the 6th but can't see when this is scheduled (it may well be on the 6th)

Instead of turning 45212 why not be different and turn the rest?
That would be more of a novelty.
