    Wouldn't a Class 20 be a better investment than a pair of 09s?

Can you really see a 20 lifting that on a wet day? Ok I can see why two 09s would be a bad idea but they have the low end grunt. But does this travel on the ECML? Won't there be huge pathing issues with a pair of locos with a max speed of 25?

Well, yes. Plus the higher speed obviously has its own advantages.

No it doesn't go on ECML, unless I am wrongly advised. Purely between North Blyth and Alcan smelter. But it is spectacular scenery with a special loco. Spent 1/2 hour on Wednesday watching it shunting a few wagons here and there. The gradients are quite something, plenty good photo spots for all. I hope the Deltic stays until I have a selection of shots from the whole route.

Thank you you kindly sir - now need a return visit to get the master shot that was foiled by an unexpected haar that covered most of the Lynemouth area when the last trip ran from North Blyth. Visibility went from 5 miles to 5 yards in - literally - 5 minutes and there was no chance of a photo. Even the locals admitted to being caught out so it must have been bad - and it wasn't even Deltic exhaust fumes !

Don't misunderstand me, I think Deltics are a very fine bit of kit, I would go a long way to see and hear one, at speed, uphill, with a heavy load. But Deltics were intended for 100mph running on the ECML, running that way they could "keep their throat cleared". Slow running, lots of idling, is alien to Deltics, hence the clag.

Was very local to lynemouth this afternnon, so decided to drop by, could not believe the numbers watching, must have been at least 70-90 at the smelter sidings.

Pictures here from the Deltic working at North Blyth, finally got them up loaded
to the site following my trip up there on Monday.

Nice to meet some new people and see some familiar ones in Blyth of all places!

I was up at North Blyth yesterday (the 20th) having travelled up especially from Newbury only to be told by both the security at North Blyth and Lynemouth that the Deltic had finished doing this on the Tuesday, (the 17th) and travelled up to they thought Scotland on the 19th. Does anyone know if this is the case and if so why it stopped? It certainly wasn't working yesterday! :(

It is in Scotland. As I understand it it was a short term contract and that contract was successfully completed. Martin Walker does regularly give the facts as to the activities of his locomotive on the 55022 web site, and this move was published well in advance.

It is currently at the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway, and worked a railtour for SRPS yesterday, and is due to go to Fort William light engine to run the Alacans down tomorrow as far as Mossend Yard. Two weeks time it will head another railtour for SRPS and then I presume it will return south. SRPS have also carried out the C4 (4 Yearly exam)
