    It wouldn't be safe to build on its a toxic site.(although that doesn't bother developers. ) As a GP, I'm aware genetic abnormalities in children seems very common from such areas, don't recommend living on them! If things drop out , may find the true worth is a lot less than £150000! Would be ideal for a Woodhead Electric museum now York is stopping been a railway museum as such, EM1,EM2 maybe the 306 dumped in storage and a more commercial short steam line?

    The worrying thing is that sites that have been contaminated have been built on before (after usually being decontaminated beforehand). This may mean thatch Asian guy has either bought the land without knowing about the decontamination required, or has a lot of money to do this.

    Me thinks someone should approach the new owner and make an offer. What say you?

    What would be toxic on this site? Coal, ash, water and oil aren't exactly dangerous chemicals.

    From what I recall from my involvement with Dinting many years ago, the usefulness of the site for large exhibits is questionable if a NR rail connection is unlikely. Dinting Lane up from the bottom of the valley was very steep, and would probably preclude delivery of anything beyond "tank engine" size.
    Nunlow, Warrington, Tiny, and the crane tank probably came in by road, but everything larger was delivered by rail.

    As mentioned earlier in the thread, if someone really wants to start another new rail centre/museum rather than supporting the development of an existing venture, then surely there must be more convenient potential rail-connected sites in the North West?

    I say that with the proviso that individuals are perfectly at liberty to spend their own money as they see fit and appropriate.

    Hi dman-lewis, as you may have seen in this thread, sadly an Asian guy bought the land, though the National Preservation group ran him a very close second. Quite what he intends to do with the land is unclear but he may have his work cut out, in which case there still may be a chance to buy the land for preservation.

    Personally I think a golden opportunity has been missed but feel that, as the bidding was close, if enough support and funds were drummed up, an offer could still be made to the guy for the land. If they can build four new steam locomotives then surely Dinting could still be saved?

    Its a very sad place now. I hate it when things happen like this. It looked so busy and do well. Its not bad money from the land but Hopeful no houses!!
    Im coming from a place that has just been going for 3 years from derilict but this is something different. Never seen a heritage site no more...

    I don't believe that the trust are looking to relocate as they have spent up a lot of time building up there current museum at Ingrow on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway over the past ten years. Although the idea that you have suggested is an idea that I have formulated myself. They could however move their workshop from Ingrow to Halifax, which I believe would massively improve commuting over from Manchester, which is where the majority of them live. Much like the Swanage Railway where their works are separated from the railway.

    Out of interest I have been in contact with Eureka regarding purchasing the land from them and from what I can gather they are only willing to sell of the land for a large scale development which will have a maximum benefit to their charity. So I am praying on winning the lottery because they don't seem to be willing to do anything with it.
