    Hello

Some of you will know me with connections to Ramsbottom Model Railway Club and also the Pway gang.

Following on from a visit to the railway last weekend and chatting with some of the standard 4 guys (very friendly). I spoke to them about making a new website seen as the last one...hosted by Peter Winstanley has been removed.

The idea is to get the profile raised and hopefully get a little help towards getting the engine finished, im hoping to have regular updates.

    So here it is

    www.80097.webs.com

It is in very early stages with reguards to content etc.

This website is also for 46428 but its very limited right now.

If you can help me in anyway with photgraphs, infomation the locomotives history, pictures of removal from barry or just anything
then please get in touch Eagle1711@hotmail.com

    Would welcome any comments.

Well someone asked for an update as to what is going on over in the standard 4 group so here we go....hope i can relay this the best i can.

Standard Wagons :- Keith Savory and his friends seem to be busy getting wagons into C&W and are getting them passed fit to run alot quicker now that things have changed. Keith and Malc are also restoring the GW Toad for any of you GWR fans (Mouldy ) with 3quarters now complete and just the rear side to finish so expect to see this back some time soon.

Standard 4 80097 :- Well I met 3 of the guys who are usually down on a sunday (Dave Cousins, Phil Spenlove and Richard (dont know your surname)) who all made me feel very welcome with cups of tea and ginger cake (wizzo ). They were explaning to me why they were digging 4 large trenchs around the lomac with the boiler placed on it. These will be filled with concrete and smoothed over to allow the big yellow crane to be moved futher down towards the sales coach to aid in moving boiler parts etc.

Well i couldnt just let these two dig on their own so armed with a shovel and pick i took to the trench and gave them a hand for 4 hours with richard supplying the cups of tea.

From what they have told me it seems work is now progressing on the boiler with the copper plate awaiting to be fitted to it which just needs transporting up to the shed.

One man (Alan Schofield) seems to be working on the boiler but i havent met him yet as he wasnt down today. He seems to be doing a good job from what i can make out though i have limited knowledge on this things. The next two boiler sections are also at the shed waiting for the fire box to be finished.

On the engine itself from what i saw is the motion to go back on the right hand side, they told me that they need to finish the injectors piping but might be sub contracting this out.

But all this can not be finished unless they can get any donations from people like you....

There is only 4 people working on the engine....so please be patient unless you have any free time on a sunday to help out like im doing.

    Dan

Ps....nice to of met you Alan Bibby and Jonathon- (Asbibby)

Ive now made a section within the photo gallery called 80097 general views which shows the engine how it looks now
    http://80097.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=11197445
There is even a picture of me sat at the drivers controls....couldnt help it

Also in the Misc section of the Photo section is a few pictures from the trenchs going in and a picture of Dave and Phil

Just a quick update for today.

Finally got to meet Mr Alan Schofield (CME for the Group) who is working on the boiler restoration.

Me (Danny Jones), Dave Cousins and Phil Spenlove spent another afternoon digging the remender of the trench in readyness for concreting. Once the concrete has been poured and allowed to set then this will enable the mobile crane to be moved futher forward to enable more work to be carried out on the boiler.

Alan and Richard have also been working on machining more componets for the injectors using a new Tap aquired recently.

Dave and Alan have also been measuring up for the installation of the new stays on the outer firebox. These will be ordered this week.

Thanks to Alan Schofield for allowing me to use his pictures from the Facebook Standard Four Group these pictures can be viewed in the photo gallery under the sections80097 Boiler [urlhttp://80097.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=11235926][/url]and Machined Partshttp://80097.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=11235960

Also pictures of today can be viewed by http://80097.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=11197610

More links have been added to the links page, if you have a group or page that you would like to see on the site then please email me eagle1711@hotmail.com

Also im on the lookout for some display boards.

    Cheers

Here are a few updates with progress of the group :-

•On the wagon's side of things we currently have 18 wagons including 3 brake vans currently in traffic with ready to run tickets. A BIG Thank you to Lee Kenny and his team at C&W for having the time to pass our wagons.

•Keith Savory, Malcolm Davenport and Myself (Danny Jones) have been recently working on the Great Western Toad 20T Brake Van number 17448 with the rear end of the brake van (non open end) as can be seen http://webzoom.freewebs.com/80097/photos/Standard-4-Wagons-Group/IMG_3740.JPG
chiping away the old paint which revealed a yellow and black colour showing signs of a previous life. Keith has recently repainted the roof.

•Down at the Standard 4 shed on Sunday Malcolm Vickers and Richard were seen putting up the wooden sides inside both trenches which must been that the concrete will be arriving soon. This will enable us to move the over head gantry crane futher over the boiler making it quite mobile. Pictures of the trenches can be seen http://webzoom.freewebs.com/80097/photos/Locomotive-Workshop/IMG_3746.JPG and http://webzoom.freewebs.com/80097/photos/Locomotive-Workshop/IMG_3765.JPG

•We also now have some business cards with the groups name, telephone number, website address and email number. They also have a great picture of 80097. These can be attained from our shop.

•A big thank you to Keith Savory for letting me borrow his ever extensive photo collection of the standard four group which this time show more of the wagons including some great shots of the when the group did a sponsored wagon push to Rawtenstall. These will start to appear once ive scanned the lot and also cropped and edited.

•Another thank you to Keith Savory for the old 'Bury Transport Museum Journal' from Spring/Summer 1986 which has an article written by the late Colin Wrangles (R.I.P) who gave a very enjoyable and funny account of 80097s journey from Barry to Bury. This can now be viewed on the main site under 80097's journey to Bury and also by clicking http://80097.webs.com/80097sjourneytobury.htm

I will also be down on the railway tomorrow so will hopefully get more of an update from Dave Cousins and co on the engine.

Here are a few updates from the Bury Standard Four Group :-

Firstly on Tuesday 3rd May 2011, The concrete arrived and was poured into the trenches that have been dug and and using plywood have been into position.

After the concrete had been allowed to set for a few days, Dave and Malcolm made a start on removing the plywood sides on Saturday whilst this was also carried on on the Sunday by Danny and Dave. There is still some plywood to remove from the side nearest the retaining wall.

The smoke box door also has also had some attention today. With a start being made using a wire brush connected to an angled grinder to remove moss, rust and any other unwanted things. This was also treated to a coat of Grey Zinc primer. The plan is to hopefully have this and the chimney returned to the loco's smoke box some time in the near future.

On the wagon front of things, The LMS 20T Brake Van 950136 currently in Grey has been moved up to the Carriage and Wagon works for restoration.

Some pictures of the concreting and the removal of the plywood sides can be seen by clicking the link

    Hello All,

Here is an update of Sundays activities down at the Standard Four Shed :-

Some time during last week Alan and Dave managed to fit some more stays to 80097's firebox and manufacture a new Smoke Box door pin for 80097.
On Sunday Dave and Alan fitted the LHS and RHS Smoke Box hand rails and the bracket for the tube cleaner valve.
Dave has also brought out the Smoke box and shed plate, wire brushed them down and given them a coat of primer.
I have rubbed down the LHS Tank with a white spirited cloth, wire brushed the rust off the tank, primered the area ready for a coat of black paint to be applied hopefully next Sunday all being well.
The roof has also been given a rub down with a white spirited cloth and primered with a grey zinc based paint, ready for a black coat of paint.
The RHS tank just about managed to get a rub down with a dry cloth. This will get a wire brushing next week.
The plan is in the next couple of weeks is to hopefully have the side tanks and smoke box all painted up and roll 80097 out of the shed for a photograph and maybe launch an appeal to help us finish the boiler as this will be the main project during the summer. Hopefully we will appear in one of the Steam Mags.

No work was continued today on the smoke box door due to the weather being very poor hopefully this will improve other wise we will have to bring the smokebox in doors.

We would also like to hear from any potential new members who would like to see 80097 back in steam either as a volunteer with our steam group working on 80097 or maybe our sales coach. You can download an application form by clicking the link http://80097.webs.com/apps/documents

You dont need any previous experience except that you enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.

If you are able to help us financially by maybe purchasing shares, membership or even a one off donation to the group then every penny goes straight into the 80097 restoration fund.

You can view some pictures of today by clicking the link http://80097.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=11574796
    Cheers

    Hello,

Here are some updates to 80097's Restoration :-

    • Just after being given a coat of grey undercoat to the smoke box door, the heaven's opened and the rain poured down. (Alan said just as you finish it will rain and he was correct). Later once the sun came back out, the smoke box door was rubbed down and recoated in a dark grey undercoat.

    • Whilst it rained and stopped progress on the smoke box door, The LHS Tank was given a nice coat of black gloss paint, having to be careful of the runs in the paint. This maybe rubbed down next weekend just have to see how it dry's.

    • The cab roof was given a coat of dark grey undercoat which it will receive another next weekend.

    • The smoke box door also was given a coat of grey undercoat in areas which will be on show when in place.

    • Alan and Dave made slight improvements to the smoke box hand rails which need adjusting slightly higher up.

    • Dave and Phil were finishing off the RHS Steam Pipe Casing with Phil fresh off his holidays in Jamica.

    • Richard was turning some 5/8th bolts for mounting the ejector elbow.

    • Alan was milling various componets, machined a flange for the ejector exhaust pipe and welded the bottom dart bar bracket to the smokebox

For those of you that like classic photographs, I have managed to find a photograph on one of our neighbours (26B Group) shop of the GWR Toad which for a while carried bright yellow livery. This has been added to the Standard Four Wagon Group Gallery. http://webzoom.freewebs.com/80097/photos/Standard-4-Wagons-Group/Yellow GWR Toad.jpg

I have also borrowed the groups picture of 80097 stood outside 87C Danygraig. Which has been added to the 80097 British Railways Era Gallery. http://webzoom.freewebs.com/80097/photos/80097-British-Railway/80097 at Danagreig.jpg

Also whilst on about pictures, I managed to take some of today which can be viewed by clicking here.

    Hello,

Its been awhile since the last update so here is a list of whats been going on :-

The smoke box door has been given a final coat of white undercoat just awaiting on black paint and nice day to paint it as it seems to rain everytime we paint it. Once its had a coat of black it can be fitted to the smoke box.

Alan has machined both Anti Vacuum Valves this week.

Alan has also remachined one Cylinder End Cover to correct dimensions, he was due to start on the next one untill the lathe broke down

Alan also completed and fitted the drain cock and actuating valve.
Now that the ejector is fitted to the LHS of the smoke box, Dan and Phil have been fitting the drain pipe for it.

John and Dennis from Standard Four shop have been taking part in the Thomas event with a stall to raise money for the group.

The next plan will be to hopefully paint the smokebox / smokebox door and make a start on the fire box.

A couple of pictures of the new componets and fittings can be seen by clicking the link http://80097.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=11235960
