    Whilst it would have happened eventually if it hadn't been for the TR proving volunteers could run a railway I doubt railway preservation would be where it is today. They proved it could be done and trailed the path that we have all followed.

    Maybe we should all raise a glass or two tonight in memory to those who sixty years ago today in effect started railway preservation in the form we know it.

    Desperately upset to be missing this. I live in Aberystwyth, but at the last minute I've been called to South Wales for some work :(

    Will definitely be visiting at somepoint this year though, I have yet to ride in one of the original 4-wheelers. This must be rectified.
