Is this on a 'try before you buy' basis, or unconnected to the loco being on the market?

It is a little disappointing to find people assuming we're a tin-pot small-holding!

As lil bear has pointed out, we've had 5643 running over Christmas (very similar indeed) and Morayshire a few years ago, which at the time could not run on its 'own' line owing to having too high an axle loading. Our line has been rebuilt to have a 25ton axle loading all along its length as we have reinstated the track and bridges along the route.

The only problem we would ahve with GWR locos (I imagine) would be the clearance for certain outside cylinder variants in the platforms at Embsay which are to the original Midland clearances.

Dear tim, i in no way want to infer you are a tin pot small holding. I wasnt aware of 5643's visit
There is seemingly a 'small engine' preference if not policy in place and one can wrongly assume that there were permanent way features, either clearance but more likely weight that dictated this. If such a policy exists i wouldnt decry that either as it makes sense on a lot of levels.

Look forward to my next visit.

Are the railway likely to post running dates for 6619 on their website, I'm sure she'll draw in additional visitors, me included

Can I just correct you there?
Morayshire, when on loan to Embsay, had already been steaming up and down our line for a few years. Indeed there was a year or so when she could not run to Birkhill ( at that time, the passenger operation terminus ) back in 2004ish, indeed due to axle load, but she went to Embsay in 2008. She most certainly was running on our railway that year as I have several memories firing, maintaining and photographing the engine.

Fair play - my mind is obviously playing tricks - I knew there was a restriction at some point!

If I find out the dates I will publish them. The aim is that it will be running over the Bank Holiday Weekend for the Thomas event, but after that I'm afriad I currently don't know which dates it will be. I'll ask the loco department what the plans are...

6619 landed yesterday. Will be in service Sat/Sun/Mon for the Thomas event. Will advise after that when I know.

I thought that at the NYMR SSG recently. A Gresley chime perhaps? I managed to edit the sound of the damned thing out of my films but it does seem to be most inappropriate.

It's had that whistle for quite a long time now, certainly had it during the NNR gala in 2009.

I was told that the person who owns her isn't actually a GWR fan but GWR was the only thing on offer for him to buy so the non GWR whistle was fitted. I don't know how much truth is in that...

Hopefully if the loco does change hands it will go to an owner who will see merit in removing this and the other attempts at de-westernisation of the loco.

Did 75014 not carry a whistle similar or the same in the late 1990s when doing the Jacobite . I think the engine was in the same ownership but could be wrong

Hasn't 76079 (Pocket Rocket) got a similar whistle?
