Just returned from the Nottingham Railway Heritage Centre. Many thanks to the member who kindly showed me the USA S160 frames that have been on the railway for a while. He also told me another S160 had arrived in the last couple of weeks. In both cases the boiler is separated from the frames. Does anybody know which engine this new one is and where it's come from ?

There are in fact the substantial parts of three locomotives now on site at Ruddington, though it is intended that the parts not utilised in the rebuild and heavy overhaul of one loco will form a pool of spares to assure the long term viability of the operation of the loco through a stock of strategic major parts and assemblies.

A brief chronological history of each locomotive present is as follows:-

    USATC No1631 Alco No 70284 1942
Commissioned Cowlairs. Stored Penrhos, South Wales
Sent to France 1944 worked from Cherbourg 1944-45
    Allocated SNCF April 1945
Out of SNCF service by Dec 1946
Date sent to Hungary not known

    USATC No2138 Alco No 70620 1943
Docked at Hull 14th May 1943 aboard the “Ralph Waldo Emerson”
    On LNER 06/43
    Sent to GWR 07/43
Sent to France 1944 worked from Cherbourg 1944-45
    Allocated to SNCF April 1945
Date sent to Hungary not known. Numbered MAV 411.380

    USATC No2364 Baldwin No 69621 1943
    Allocated to Stratford 09/43
Handed over to US army 09/44
Date sent to France not known
Date sent to Hungary not known. Numbered MAV 411.xxx

Are these three locos the ones that were owned by Ian Riley at one time?

Baldwin 69621 was allocated to Stratford, wow what a coincidence that was?

i really liked that Polar Express.. surprises me that anyone with an S160 or Yank tank didnt fit em with a big light and have em on the front of their santa specials...

After a spell on the Watercress Line I think she moved to South Coast Steam Ltd in Portland, Dorset. This has been the case for a number of years though and there has not been much progress since arrival. I have been trying to find more info on this but its near to impossible! Hopefully someone will see the potential of this loco and get her running again!
