Perhaps the B1 people will be wanting to use the coach for volunteer accommodation at the NYMR? Other loco owners do.

The chance to ride on the Footplate of 60163 Tornado will be available again during its visit to the NYMR from next Thursday. It is hoped that details will be available on the NYMR website or by ringing 01751 472508.

If the B1 Group's coach doesn't go to Grosmont, where is Steve going to sleep?

Tornado due to arrive Wednesday. Will be in use Thursday - the actuakl 175th Anniversary of the Whitby and Pickering Railway opening - 60163 is rostered to haul the special train between Grosmont and Pickering. In 1836, the name of the motive power wasn't recorded but was changed several times en route - for a fresh horse!

I gather Tornado is not going to be used on the Thursday and Friday during the week, despite being there on the line. Or is an unannouced running of the locomotive likely given that it is there. Got to be careful, dont want an extra steam cycle to scupper things do we?!!

It was £250 when it was on the SVR, for a 16-mile single trip. People are prepared to pay it, 'nuff said.

I paid £75 for a 20 minute flight in a De Havilland Dragon Rapide the other day - and I'd do it again!

The NYMR will need to pay for Tornado somehow won't they? Besides there will be enough people who will want to ride on the footplate of Tornado, regardless of the cost.

Yep, correct, not being used Thursday and Fridays - "rest days" (probably for support crew as much as the lcoos, but they did find 10 days without a break made getting the loco back into showroom condition much harder on its first visit).

I think the footplate rides are less than we charged on the first visit and that was a sell out. As has been said, people will pay for these little luxaries - I remember a few years back a client comp;laining to me that their hotel lost corporate business because it wasn't expensive enough - peopel would look at the price and assume it wasn't in the same class as a longer established hotel nearby that was of a similar standard! "Ride footplate of the star of Top Gear" is the sort of experience some people would feel money almost couldn't buy!

Understandable ! I well remember that event, standing with the gallery on the road bridge @ Goathland, listening to some people whinging 'you'd think they could at least keep it clean!' My reply to them is unprintable !

I think 'main line' is pushing the description just a little, OK for a few miles at the Poznan end it is, but I agree with you, if you want to do it properly then that's the place to go. How long it will continue is another matter.
