Oh let's not go over old territory. The fact of the matter is that 6100 is being sorted, and that is a good thing. I look forward to seeing her (in whatever livery is chosen).

I've shortened your original Martin. I prefer it that way.

BR Green is the only livery that suits it, unless they're planning on 'un-rebuilding' it back to original LMS condition when Crimson Lake would be appropriate.

its not the engine, had it gone anywhere else, and two certain gentlemen had not been given any say in the restoration, i firmly believe that it would have been done right, within budget and with in a much shorter timespan

could you see this saga happening in the first place had it been done at Crewe, Bridgenorth, Bury , or any other workshop ?

    Re: 6100 Royal Scot..Progress 2010.

What is the current ownership status of the loco?

Because if Bressingham no longer have a say, perhaps it will be painted into something sensible. I wouldn't mind genuine LMS Crimson red (just pretend it's British Legion!) or BR Green (or LMS Black come to think of it), as long as it isn't in that godawful pink again!

    Re: 6100 Royal Scot..Progress 2010.

It's in the hands of the Royal Scot Trust, chaired by Jeremy Hosking (the same trust which now have ownership of 6024 I think).

I would be very interested to read a full report of the problems with Royal Scot from Crewe, in the railway press. Is that likely? No, probably not, but to have to do a boiler lift so soon after, and I quote, "a comprehensive overhaul" at Southall does not reassure anyone as to Southall's involvement in the locomotive, surely...

Well it makes a change from endlessly apportioning blame for 6100's woes. :)

    I know !

Dare I say it, without hearing howls of derision, I'd like to see a mocked up photo of her in southern green - I think it might actually suit the engine :behindsofa:

It was - the Southern Railway co-operated where the GW wouldn't and the (modified) designs were sent to the North British Locomotive Company for building. It's basically a modified Lord Nelson according to O S Nock. Doesn't say much for the LMS design team at the time though.

Why start from scratch when you can start with a proven runner and improve on it.

I think at the time there was much 'teamwork' going on full stop at the LMS...
