A friend of mine recently visited the Orkney islands and found a couple of Industrial Diesel Narrow Gauge locos in a museum up there. He was asking me if I knew anything about them, and even after searching on the net came up with a bit of a blank.

    Anyone know anything about them?

Try uklocos.com they came from a scrapyard in Hampshire I think and were saved by the late Wilfrid Simms (who wrote a book on the railway of Orkney) and he gave them to the heritage centre. One at least is a Ruston.

There should be three narrow gauge locos at the Scapa Flow Visitor Centre, Lyness, they’ve been there since the early 1990s.
A metre gauge Ruston diesel, ex RNAD Milford Haven.
A 2’6” gauge Wingrove & Rogers battery electric, ex RNAD Trecwn.
A 600mm gauge Ruston diesel, ex Lydd Gun Ranges.
Plus a 600mm gauge Wickham target trolley.

The Target Trolley is Wickham Type R1389, Works No. 3030 which was delivered from Ware on 10 July 1941 to Easter Command HQ, Showburyness, Essex. It had the running nuber RTT/767091 and was fitted with a JAP 1323 Special engine

Wickham Target trolley came from me in the early 1990's - can't remember the exact date but I remember taking it up to Invergordon and dropping if off on the quay for transport to Orkney - organised by the late Wilf Simms. I had acquired it back in the late1970's from the Bromyard & Linton Light Railway in Herefordshire.
