Echills Wood Railway helps out the G&WR Slip Appeal

On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June 2011 the Echills Wood Railway 7 ¼” gauge Railway will be holding a rather special event – A Standard Steam & Diesel Weekend and all the money raised will be donated to the Gloucester & Warwickshire Railway’s Slip Appeal. We believe that this is the first time that a miniature railway has offered to help one of our big railway brothers.
Lots of Standard Gauge Steam & Diesel Loco’s are due to attending making this a rather special event at EWR. Passenger and freights trains will be operating.
Why don’t you come along and not only have a few rides on the railway – one of the biggest 7 ¼” line in the country we understand. Plus other fund raising activities will be taking place. The G&WR will have a stand explaining all about its Landslip problems and Pete Waterman will be attending the event on the Saturday.

If you have a 7 ¼” Standard Gauge Steam or Diesel and you would like to come and run on this very special weekend - then in the first instance please contact Jeff Stevens on 07771 511768 -or- Tom Hubble on 07914 530178 we would love to see you and your locomotives.

So do come and see us you will be made very welcome & remember all the money raised by not only train rides but all other activities on the railway will be donated to the G&WR Slip Appeal.

So what are you waiting for – we look forward to seeing you all

If you get chance, do support this - it's a cracking little railway in a lovely setting. Lots of other attractions for partners and kids too at the water park.

The Saturday event was duly given excellent coverage on the teatime ITV Central news, and the Echills Wood railway looked very busy indeed. Interviews with Pete Waterman and a gent from the Glos-Warks got the message across about raising funds to repair the slip and rejoin both parts of the railway.

Should you do, stick your head around the corner of the signalbox and ask for John Savage - I'll give you the guided tour, if we aren't as busy as we were today - though I do have some help tomorrow!

and so I did. The Echills was very busy, long queues at the main station, despite trains every few minutes. Some fine locos running, Black 5 and B1 double header, a lovely GNR 02 and our train was hauled solo by a Hall, the restart up the bank from Far Lees being particularly impressive. Hopefully the GWSR appeal will have benefited very nicely from the weekend. Thanks also to Selsig for giving me a guided tour of the yard and lots of interesting background gen :thumb:

Unfortunately the weather was mostly dull, and I only had Mrs S's snapomatic, but here are one or two photos to give you a flavour....
