Well once 2857 is back the SVR will be less dependant on needing visiting engines to assist with duties because that will boost the fleet up to 7 (I think)

Even the moderators are are putting the forum down now.

I believe the forum is very good at keeping us informed of up to the minute news. As an example Tangmere grinding to a halt on Filton bank
and 71000 Duke of Gloucester failing at Tiverton loop. These topics are factual and not mere speculation.

Rumours and questions will always be raised on the forum but with the considerable knowledge that our members have of the railway scene,
the answers are never far away. Long may the forum continue in it's present form. <BJ>

2857 will indeed be welcome alongside 92212 and the home fleet on the SVR, but the SVR suffers from the same problem that has afflicted other heritage lines; It does not turn out overhauled steam motive power at a frequency necessary to maintain a stable fleet of in-ticket engines.

The SVR needs more than 2857 back, don't forget that 7802 was lost unexpectedly this season on top of both panniers. I believe 46443 is due out of traffic shortly which will be a big loss for the driving school and 42968 only has a couple of years at the most. I think summer hire-ins will be necessary for the foreseeable future which is no bad thing in my opinion as it takes the pressure of the home fleet and adds variety.

Edit- Incidently 2857 was reported as sitting in Bridgnorth yard with a fire in it yesterday afternoon, still some work to be done before first moves, but not far off.

The SVR really needs 82045 to take the pressure off the home fleet. Please help us build this much-needed new loco. Full details at www.82045.org.uk
We are moving toward an expensive time (cylinders, wheels). Remember, every donation helps, if enough people send us a fiver - job done!

    Regards
    Barbara

Would it not be cheaper and quicker to overhaul 80079

Depends on where in the overhaul queue it is and I'm led to believe the bolier needs quite a lot of work.
That said there aren't many easier locos left to overhaul.

That is a matter between the owners of 80079 and the SVR.

We (82045 Trust) are building an all new loco and that is OUR concern. One day we will be able to hand it over and hopefully it should provide many years` of trouble free running.

80079 ran some of the highest mileage of any SVR loco, as such she will require a very heavy overhaul.

I understood 80079 is owned by the SVR.

80079 is owned by an SVR group called The Passenger Tank Fund.

Offiicially, only 3 steam locos are owned by SVR PLC: Gordon, Hagley Hall (might be joined owned now) and 45110

That's certainly provided a chuckle this evening.

Granted, there are some high profile people who know their stuff, but I'd have to say that the majority don't have any indepth knowledge on the procedures of the rail network and therefore some of the things that get posted on the forum is quite laughable and rediculous. All you need to do is just look through most of the the threads on here to confirm this.
