yeh its been on local High Peak radio too, about trying to reopen the whole route - main problem with reopening ideas is that they only see the line thats missing, not the fact the lines it connects to also has to be upgraded and thats what turns a 8 mile missing piece into a 40 mile job very quickly, obvious problems such as the constant problems with the tunnels at Doveholes being a good example, single line at the Matlock end, problems with national parks, additional capacity at the other ends, realtering signalling schemes to cope, ooh it goes on and on.....seen a lot of this in my years in the buisness, well planned cases, very little capital for the whole, still never say never, all the best to them!!!

I'd give the guys a few days rest and let the Matlock operation bed down for a while. Create a coach stop at Rowsely Village and then you can go by rail and conncting bus to Chatsworth.

You can already do that up to a point...

There's a bus stop at the end of the access road down to Rowsley South and from there you can catch the hourly service 214 to Sheffield via Chatsworth. On Sundays service 215 runs to Sheffield via Chatsworth and Bakewell (but I don't think this is quite as frequent). Besides those services I'm fairly sure there ought to be some others which go from Rowsley to Chatsworth - just have a look on the East Midlands Journey Planner.

The only difference between those and what I think you were getting at is that you'd have a short walk from Rowsley South to the bus stop and the buses may not connect with the train as such... however I'd quite happily have a look around the Rowsley site and have a drink prior to walking to the bus stop nearer the time when the bus was due.

A vintage bus service running from Rowsley South to Chatsworth and Bakewell would be very nice though... Time to have a word with some of the local bus preservation groups perhaps?

Diesel Running Day, Saturday 16th July

31 270 (in Regional Railways white and blue livery) and Peak D4 “Penyghent” (early BR Green livery) will be working the passenger service.

These will be the first trains hauled by D4 into Peak Rail’s new platform at Matlock Town station.

First train from Rowsley South is at 11.15 and returns from Matlock at 11.44.

Plenty of diesel traction on view in the sidings and shed roads at Rowsley.

A Day Rover is excellent value at just £7.50.

Just a slight correction, it's D8, D4 is Great Gable. Should look good at Matlock.

    Message to daveannjon,

I agree, D8 (!) did look good today. I particularly like the way it looks with the small yellow panel - really suits it in my opinion.

I like the three images you have posted. The third one - the head-on close-up - is a an absolute beauty. Well done.

Thanks, I knocked off early from work in the carriage shed and was lucky with the sun, it had been a fairly showery day.

    very small update

rodding work has started again at Riverside

The LMSCA were working on rebuilding an end on one of the coach ends outside, the class 50 lads were working on their locos electrics and cabs and the water tank was having stencilling added, other jobs were on going around the site but we decided to stick ourselves down foxholes at riverside putting the stools in so didnt get to see much else.

oh yes Mr Briddon was overseeing a move of the Planet loco to the DVR,part of various works on their engines between the railways.

back to regular updates next time
