Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway returns two 'new' locomotives to service.

Attention narrow gauge fans! Following a long restoration and re-gauging ex- Sena Sugar Estates locomotive,now named ' Zambezi', built by Fowler in 1912 ( Works No. 13573) will return to service at the Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway in Kent at its June 5th open day.

Also returning to service on this day will be BWLR No.8 'Helga' an 0-4-0 well tank built by Orenstein & Koppell A.G., Berlin, Germany in 1936 (works no. 12722). This locomotive saw service at Bressingham before transferring to the Brecon Mountain Railway. In 1999 the machine was purchased by the BWLR. The engine is now fully restored and ready for service.

The 5th June open day starts at 10:30 with trains running every few minutes from 11:00 until 16:30. As time and passenger loadings permit the Bredgar goods train will be operating during the day.
The usual caveat of 'subject to availability' applies.

Always worth a visit, nice people and a great set-up. Am very keen to see this Fowler working as it always looked good in the shed.

Good day today, even if the weather got wetter and colder as the day went on. Four locos in steam (Limpopo, Zambezi, Helga and Darent from the Eynsford Light Railway) with three being used on the service trains. Zambezi was running in after overhaul and a bearing had run a bit warm apparently, so I didn't get to see her in action. It's an interesting piece of kit - very simple backhead, water feed pump on the side of the smokebox (with flywheel) and LOADS of name/numberplates for someone to clean.

I am expecting to visit the next open day on July 3rd, can you tell me which engines will be operating?

 

Bredgar & Wormshill, July 3rd should be Limpopo, Bronhilde and Darent.

Thank you for the information. I enjoyed my first visit to the B&WLR on Sunday 3rd July.
On my next visit I hope to see Helga and the rebuilt diesel Wormshill in service.
