Steam test run tonight for volunteers...figured it might be my only chance to film if I'm helping out.
5643 was in fine form, and what a beautiful evening!

    Roll on tomorrow!

Enjoyed our visit yesterday, after a late start with 30777 doing the first train.

Trains seemed fairly busy, which is good news for the WR, although why the DMU coach on the back of the mk1 set was locked out of use at certain times of the day was a mystery......

5643 was the better of the 2 locos performance wise, with 777 just pottering around all day.

    Best Regards

    Hi Andrew,

The rear DMU car was locked due to the fact that it was discovered the corridor connection wouldn't fit with the MK1s, so it was decided on Tuesday to allow a coach tour to use the single coach, that way they would be kept together as the rear doors were locked due to the connection issue....I think...I was too busy pottering with engines...that could be a reason why it was locked though.

Really chuffed at how well our Gala has gone, I heard on Saturday at one point it was standing room only! :D

No I do not currently volunteer
Most DMU gangways are "British Standard" - i.e. bellows with side clips and a drop plate for the floor. Mark 1s are Pullman Gangways. You need an adapter to join the two types, which provides even more fun for those watching than attaching two British Standard gangways, quite apart from the adapter usually not being where you need it from what i understand of the SVR's experiences!

The British Standard Gangway is narrower than a Pullman gangway, so there is a small gap at the sides which the adapter covers as well as enabling the two types to be attached (Pullman gangways are sprung together - the bottom of the face plate also acts at the buffing gear when buckeye couplers are in use).

I would like to say how impressed I was with the line. The views from the train, towards Redmire, have to be some of the best in England.
The station staff were helpful and friendly. If I were a volunteer on the line, I would feel proud of what was achieved over the weekend.
