Does anyone know of any BR Std 20T Brake Vans which exist only in chassis form at any preserved lines? I know there are one or two around but can't remember where I've seen them. I believe one was damaged by fire but kept as a crane runner or similar. I believe that also there were a couple used as match wagons at Immingham for the ex BSC hoper wagons fitted with rotary couplers for moving them around in the depot when receiving attention. IIRC they had some additional handrails fitted so a shunter could ride on them and they still retained the handbrake column.

Plus B953944 which was an empty chassis at NVR until the last couple of years or so, but is now coming to the end of a complete, painstaking 5-year rebuild with a brand new replica body. If you're thinking of taking one on to do something similar, the advice is probably - don't!!! Much more economic overall to buy a complete one in fairly reasonable condition and do it up.

Yes, I saw that on a recent guided tour of the works at Wansford, it's very impressive but, I have to say, a bit extreme!

Out of interest which is the blue class 14 diesel which seemed to be being repainted nearby? There was no number on it.

    Cheers,
    Phil

    Fictional "14029" - in reality D9529 I think.

Yes - NVR currently has three cl.14's based there, D9520, D9529, and D9518. However as I understand it, the latter is for spares only so is unlikely to be restored in its own right, and D9529 is available for contract hire so could disappear off again, although it is hoped it will still be around for the diesel gala in the Autumn.

To complete the story, D9516 and D9523 were sold by their owner and left a couple of months back, D9516 went to the Wensleydale and D9523 went to the Derwent Valley Light Railway.

Apologies to the OP for the thread drift!

Apologies also for the thread drift. But where is D9518 hiding? I missed that one.

In Wansford tunnel, you can just about make it out in the darkness from a passing train. I think it's currently in very faded NCB blue.

The rebuilt B953944 went on a test run yesterday, still a bit to do (particularly inside) but the end is in sight.

    Regards, Paul
