    Damn right, 50 years old, still well up to a job on the ECML and also quite handy for doing a decent few days work on the freight side of things. They needed looking after well, but when they had the bit between their teeth on th ECML (100MPH) they were magnificent.
    I enjoy ALL things railway related, steam, diesel, electric.

    There was a series on TV looking at the British inventions of each decade. The episode devoted to the 1950's showed us;
    The Routemaster bus.
    The Land Rover (I thought that was 1948).
    The Vulcan bomber.
    The Comet airliner and
    the Deltic diesel loco (surely only the prototype was a 1950s product?)
