What comments were made by the GCR, why didn't they think it was for this type of project?

It was noted at the GCR's AGM that they were unlikely to apply for the second tranche of RGF funding "as its now becoming clear that the RGF is a political process intended to provide rapid job creation, rather than long term economic benefits."

You will be most welcome to join us next week, but at the moment don't know which job we will be working on or even which line.

It was great yesterday catching the train to Froghall and back and in between doing a nice gentle walk to Oakamoor to change a few chairs. The trains were well patronised and we had a bit of a job spliting the p-way trolley to load in the guards compartment and offloading on a full platform at Froghall. The weather was fine no rain, scenery great, horseflies in abundence. The 2 men and a lad decided to do the CVR line with the zimmer frame today ( I think the propect of a 7 1/2 ml walk was to daunting ) but they said it was because no service trains were running. Anyhow that's one part of the job done and now gives us a good basis to keep our records on a computer should save a lot of time and effort.

It has been announced that Black 5 4-6-0 No. 44767 George Stephenson will be making a return visit to the CVR in October and will stay at the railway until March 2012.

The CVR in conjunction with MCR are planning to open up further parts of the MCR network this year and 44767 will be a central part of these celebrations.

That is FANTASTIC news! At last a bit of 'local' historical preservation back on our lines. It must be the longest period we have had a non-native loco on our lines (maybe excluding the Yank) and it's always good to get the line as near to it's original image as possible, although I accept it's not always that easy. Well done to all who have made this possible,. I really enjoyed George's stay last year and hope it will give trouble-free service while here.

Will there be some sort of running day on the MCR with 44767 and 5199?

and the possible return to steam of Greg wilsons s160. 6046 http://www.churnet-valley-railway.co.uk/main/mpd-6046.php. As has been said CVR in conjunction with MCR are planning to open up further parts of the MCR network (ie towards stoke. dont know how far tho.) so if it was say a small gala there would probally be some top and tailed sessions to cauldon lowe and also towards stoke as there would be no run round loop on that section. but im no spokes person im only saying what could be possible.

Flailing has begun to Stoke as of this week. Plan is to reach Endon by October, Stoke by the middle of next year. A photo has appeared on the facebook group
    http://www.facebook.com/groups/292120740315?id=10150717667340316&notif_t=like

Also Yank 6046 is due to return to steam at some point in the autumn at the earliest, though definitely by the end of the year if progress continues at the pace it has been the last few weeks. That 'could' mean we have 6046, 44767 and 5199 for the re-opening to Endon in the autumn. Any operation will require Top n Tailing at first as there wont be enough time to install the runround at Endon, and Cauldon Lowe's is still waiting to be passed for use. Fun times ahead though, can't wait! :D

What a totally stunning piece of work!! Absolutely professional. One of the best uses of modern media and the Internet I've seen in a long while. So good to get a preview of what's to come as we hack our way down to Stoke. Thanks so much for that. Iain
